Rolling Stone Sued for Topless Photo
antiMusic reports: Rolling Stone has a "girls gone wild" section? Has it come to that? Here is the story from the Sun Times:It was a year ago that Melissa Solano and Ceil Stearman graced the pages of Rolling Stone magazine. But it's hardly a photo they have framed on their wall.

Aerosmith Rehab Explained
TMZ reports: Rocker Steven Tyler just issued a statement to TMZ about his recent stint in rehab. He claims his "trademark athletic performances" injured his feet, requiring surgery. Guess it was hard on the knees!

Tyler tells TMZ "The doctors told me the pain in my feet could be corrected but it would require a few surgeries over time. The 'foot repair' pain was intense, greater than I'd anticipated. The months of rehabilitative care and the painful strain of physical therapy were traumatic.

"I really needed a safe environment to recuperate where I could shut off my phone and get back on my feet. Make no mistake, AEROSMITH has no plans to stop rocking. There's a new album to record, then another tour." - more TMZ

Radiohead & Prince Creep Controversy
Jam! reports: After word spread that Prince covered Radiohead's "Creep" at Coachella, the tens of thousands who couldn't be there ran to YouTube for a peek. Everyone was quickly denied -- even Radiohead. All videos of Prince's unique rendition of Radiohead's early hit were quickly taken down, leaving only a message that his label, NPG Records, had removed the clips, claiming a copyright violation. But the posted videos were shot by fans and, obviously, the song isn't Prince's.

In a recent interview, Thom Yorke said he heard about Prince's performance from a text message and thought it was "hilarious." Yorke laughed when his bandmate, guitarist Ed O'Brien, said the blocking had prevented him from seeing Prince's version of their song.

"Really? He's blocked it?" asked Yorke, who figured it was their song to block or not. "Surely we should block it. Hang on a moment." Yorke added: "Well, tell him to unblock it. It's our ... song."

My Chemical Suicide Denial
antiMusic reports: My Chemical Romance have responded to claims that their music somehow inspired a 13 year-old UK girl to commit suicide. Earlier this month an inquest was held where the girl's parents and coroner Roger Sykes testified that the girl, Hannah Bond, was influenced by her love of emo music, specifically My Chemical Romance.

It was also revealed that the girl had a history of self-harm, her father said that Bond had hurt herself before and claimed that it was an emo initiation ceremony. The coroner Sykes testified, "the emo overtones concerning death and associating it with glamour I find very disturbing." The girl reportedly told online friends of her plans to hang herself and live on in the afterlife as a member of "The Black Parade" - the title of a My Chemical Romance album.

The band has responded to this story with this statement: "We have recently learned of the suicide and tragic loss of Hannah Bond. We'd like to send our condolences to her family during this time of mourning. Our hearts and thoughts are with them. My Chemical Romance are and always have been vocally anti-violence and anti-suicide. As a band, we have always made it one of our missions through our actions to provide comfort, support, and solace to our fans. - the rest of their statement plus some commentary about these charges and some real stats on teen suicide

Music Causes Violence? University Studies Cause Stupidity!
Blabbermouth reports: Yippy! Another useless university study has been conducted so that professors can justify themselves! Let's forget the fact that people in bars that drink too much will become violent if the circumstances are ripe for it. But somehow we can blame this all on music!

Blabbermouth has the story: Times Online reports that researchers from Glasgow University, who monitored the playlists and outbreaks of fighting at eight pubs and bars in Glasgow city centre, found that loud rock and rap music encouraged customers to drink more, increasing loutish behaviour that often spilt over into violence. The pounding rhythms also made it difficult for customers to hear one another, causing misunderstandings.

Rock music such as AC/DC's "Highway to Hell" and The Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar" was found to encourage macho posturing and aggressive behavior among male customers. However, researchers also discovered that Sonny And Cher's "I Got You Babe" and Robbie Williams's hits could be used to defuse potential disputes. Easy listening and "slushy" romantic songs were sometimes used to deter gangs of young men from entering pubs. [The key word there is "entering". But what happens if they are already in the pub and the owners turned on Sonny and Cher? You would think that would turn them violent in a hurry.] - more on this story

Band Challenge Miley Cyrus Over Song Theft
antiMusic reports: Looks like someone is looking for some publicity! Here is the press release we received: Given the recent commotion over Lustra's fans discovery of Miley Cyrus' alleged borrowing of their music, Lustra would like to invite Ms. Cyrus to join them on stage at the Viper Room, Thursday, May 29, 2008. Lustra would play their song "Scotty Doesn't Know", following by Ms. Cyrus' "Rockstar", and then let their fans decide. [Do they let 15 year-olds into the Viper Room?]

Initially, it was the many legions of Lustra fans that discovered the similarities with Ms. Cyrus' music. Hence, Lustra believes that the fans should decide if the copyright problem does exist. "We don't want anything other than credit for the music we worked so very hard on," declares Nick Cloutman, Lustra's guitarist. "We don't believe for a second that Ms. Cyrus knew what was happening and was only following instructions."

Disney has admitted publicly that Ms. Cyrus' does not write her own music but rather plays the songs that are selected for her. Lustra is well aware of that and realizes Ms. Cyrus' dilemma and that she much like them, is a victim of corporate behavior.

antiMusic reports: With all of the other big name reunions going on, The Sex Pistols activities have gone pretty much under the radar. The big news is that their reunion last year was captured for a new DVD which will hit stores next month as the band hits the road for a world tour that now includes a stop in Russia.

Here is the 411 from John Lydon's site: The Sex Pistols will release a full-length DVD from last years triumphant Brixton Academy shows. John travels on an open top bus. The DVD is set for a June 30th 2008 release via FremantleMedia Enterprises.

The news about the tour: 30 years ago Russia was the enemy of the British establishment. So were the Sex Pistols. Now, in 2008 the Pistols travel to Russia for the very first time. Wentz Confirms Ashlee is Knocked Up
antiMusic reports: Pete Wentz's conspiracy theory to MTV has been debunked, he and his new bride confirmed that they are indeed expecting a child with a new blog posting at friendsorenemies.com. We also learn that Ashlee Simpson is now Ashlee Wentz.

When rumors first surfaced that the lip-synching poptard was with child, Wentz told MTV he saw a great media conspiracy at work and denied she had a bun in the oven. He also make some remarks about a conspiracy about his relationship being a shame to cover up homosexuality. But it turns out that at least the pop Wentz denial was bogus as this blog posting makes clear:

"While many have speculated about this, we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child. "This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family." - Pete and Ashlee Wentz - the blog

Lonn Remembers Michelle Meldrum
antiMusic reports: In Lonn Friend's latest column he recalls some of his favorite memories of Michelle Meldrum, who lost her life to a brain tumor earlier this month. Here is one of the antidotes Lonn offers in his column about when he turned Metallica on to Michelle's band Phantom Blue. Here is Lonn:

As referenced in the Metallica chapter of Life on Planet Rock, I picked up James Hetfield one evening during Metallica's Black sessions and while he was cracking my windshield with a rough mix of "Holier Than Thou," I suggested we check out this all-girl metal band, Phantom Blue, playing at the Roxy. Former Elektra Records publicist, Byron Hontas, PR point man on Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, touted them. What I have never written anywhere are the circumstances under which Byron and I met. I was an editor at HUSTLER, not sure what my exact title was at the time but I had my content hands in just about everything (except the photo shoots – I know…lame). I get a call from the Elektra publicity department which was perhaps the first time I ever spoke to someone who worked at a record company. I had longed to share time and ramble with musicians.... Bryon pitches me this idea; "Metallica, a big thrash band from San Francisco, and has a new LP coming out called Master of Puppets," says the man nicknamed Poca Hontas. "I was thinking how cool it would be to shoot the band with four hot HUSTLER models on strings." Get me more chips, I'm all in. Fortunately for the legacy of the band I would later come to know as 'family' (or fairly close), Q Prime management put a screeching halt to our misogynistic marionette fantasy. The project's death birthed a friendship with Byron that's thrived to this day.

Four songs into the Phantom Blue set, the mighty Hetfield giggles, "Chicks shouldn't play this sh*t." No one heard the comment, especially the blonde on lead guitar named Michelle Meldrum.... As time and tide passed, chops were honed, new bands were formed, and life in studio and on the road was experienced full scale. As Michelle's rock got harder and more focused on her 'shred', she caught the eye of her testosterone driven peeps. Opinions on the woman's role in metal have evolved. Didn't Avril Lavigne perform at Metallica's MTV Icon ceremony? The shift is on. - Read the full article for some more cool Michelle stories
