(PR) Dreadheads: Portrait of a Subculture," an independently released documentary presenting an inside look at the funky white kids who dread up their hair and follow the jam band music scene, received the 2006 Stony Award for "Best Stoner DVD" at the 6th annual Stony Awards ceremony held on October 24th at B.B. King's Blues Club in New York City. The event, hosted by Redman and Doug Benson, opened with 30 seconds of footage from the highly-acclaimed film. The Stony Awards, an annual ceremony presented by High Times, "celebrates the highest in movies and television for 2006."

The 77-minute documentary was released on DVD by the Atlanta-based Mutant Girl Films on August 29th. This humorous, smart and witty rendering of a vibrant American subculture features interviews with Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, John Bell and Dave Schools from Widespread Panic, leading academics pop culture writers/observers and more. "Dreadheads" is distributed via Landslide Distribution and can be purchased at Amazon.com and www.dreadheads.com. The film is available for rent on Netflix.com. "Dreadheads" will be screened in the spring of 2007 in various markets around the U.S., focusing on the West Coast and the Northeast.
