The jazz musician has been releasing albums of cover songs since 2002 - and decided to leave the firm in favour of specialist label Concord Records after executives refused to allow him to record his own compositions for his next LP.
He says, "I was with Arista forever, and Clive (Davis, record producer) was like family to me. But I wanted to do an album of original material, and that wasn't what they wanted me to do." - more on this story
