(Gibson) Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said that the idea behind the recently announced Big 4 Festival came from a Rage Against the Machine reunion concert he saw a couple years ago at Coachella (the same California site of the metal legends' April 23 event).

"It was a fantastic vibe out there," he told RollingStone.com. "Coachella seemed like the right place to do it. If this thing works, hopefully we can do an additional show somewhere else."

Slayer guitarist Kerry King would be up for that, and more: "I'm chomping at the bit to do a full-blown tour at stadiums across the country." So far, The Big 4 (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax) have three dates scheduled together in 2011 the California festival, plus appearances at Knebworth in Britain and Sonisphere in France. The shows follow seven festival appearances that the bands made in 2010. Ulrich said that the relatively paltry amount of shows is by design. more on this story
