His mother, Mona, is also honored with Casbah Close, named after the Casbah caf she ran (a key music venue for young bands in Liverpool) in the early '60s. The campaign to honor Pete Best with a road has been going for 36 years, after Gene Grimes of the Beatles Appreciation Society first wrote to the Liverpool council.

Best said: "Gene has always been a very good friend and supporter and he said he wanted to get a street named after me. I said thanks but didn't give it any more thought. more on this story
