(Classic Rock) The house Ringo Starr grew up in has been saved from demolition. After a sustained public campaign Liverpool city bosses decided not to knock down the 1880s terrace building at 9 Madyrn Street in the Dingle area.

A total of 32 properties in the 'Welsh streets' part of the city will be refurbished and sold, although 400 are still scheduled to be demolished.

UK housing minister Grant Shapps said: "A tide od community support brought about this decision. The house is a beacon of Beatlemania."
