(Radio.com) The Daily Mail reports that R&B singer Akon performed a recent concert in Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and when he decided to crowd surf over the sizable audience, he did so in a giant, protective plastic bubble not unlike Flaming Lips frontman Coyne at his concerts.

However, while some may see the gesture as nothing more than the easiest way to get around a crowd with much less a likelihood of being dropped, others aren't so sure.

Daily Mail notes that some are claiming Akon performed in the bubble because he was trying to defend himself from contracting Ebola from any of the attendees.

In one sense, the accusations could hold water since the Democratic Republic of Congo has had reported cases of the disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Protection. There have been cases of Ebola documented in the Lokolia, Boende and Watshikengo. However, the website notes that the outbreak was not related to the larger African outbreak making headlines in other parts of the continent; rather, it was a single outbreak stemming from a patient preparing bushmeat that has apparently been contained.

Also, it's not the first time Akon has performed in the bubble. Read more here.
