Ultra Music Festival Cofounder Alex Omes Dead at 43
. (Radio.com) Alex Omes, longtime nightlife impresario and a co-founder of the Ultra Music Festival, has died at the age of 43. Ultra has confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday. "The organizers of Ultra Music Festival extend their deepest condolences to the family of Alex Omes and are saddened by the news of his passing," the festival noted in a release. "We will continue to remember and celebrate Alex for his love, passion and contributions to the Electronic Dance Music community." According to the Miami New Times, Omes launched the fest in 1999 with then-partner Russell Faibisch, but was pushed out in 2010 over disagreements regarding the decision to separate Ultra from the annual Winter Music Conference, which helped establish the city as a destination for dance music lovers around the world.
