. Perry takes a more traditional approach to cultivating an album. She follows a three-year cycle when working on an album, which means it may take until 2018 before fans hear anything new. "I'm in the research and development phase," she said. "I've been going at it for eight or nine years in the spotlight, and then before that there's that decade of hustle that never gets recognized but still shows up in your wrinkles.
