ALO - Roses & Clover Review

by J Simpson

.
ALO(Animal Liberation Orchestra) is a new age Grateful Dead/Steely Dan type 4 piece band in where each musician is capable of lead vocals and each has mastered multiple instruments. The quartet have delivered 5 records but only 2 have been major offerings, last years "Fly Between Falls" and this year, their best effort thus far called "Roses & Clover" both released by former college buddy Jack Johnson's record label Brushfire Records.

"Roses & Clover" consists of many diverse sounds and influences with grooves going from jazzy funk, bluesy soft pop, to a distinct soul full reggae tint. All 10 tracks seem well crafted and not rushed but flow seamlessly together highlighting their admirable musicianship which makes the entire album very easy to listen too. Although the music is categorized as indie, you cannot help but notice a retro feel that reveals itself throughout the album. The collection emits a friendly pleasant vibe that doesn't challenge the listener or disguise the gentle laid back yet intricate melodies while utilizing the command of many different musical instruments and styles by the band members.

So if your "into" or find yourself "in need of" some feel good uplifting summer time music that showcase creative lyrics with artistic melodies, pick up ALO's "Roses & Clover", you wont be sorry. ALO are now on tour through much of 2007.
