The Hotdamns! - Vanquished Review

.
This five-song EP kicks off with an up-tempo song called "Walk." The bass lines and the guitar definitely got my toe-tapping, but then just as I was really getting into the song, it was over.

"Walk" is followed by two great songs. "Yankee by Birth (Southern at Heart)" features some great keyboards and the vocals of Danielle Ahart. I was trying to think of a way to describe her vocals and I think the best I can do is to say that her vocals are easy. She just has one of those voices I could listen to for a long time without getting tired of it. "Mr. Williams" (that would be Hank) is another great tune about being broken-hearted. It includes some lyrics from the man who is the subject of the song. Danielle provides awesome harmony vocals on this one.

This is a solid effort and it does what an EP is meant to do. It gives a taste of the band and leaves you wanting more. It comes in at a little less than seventeen minutes, so I definitely want more of this. Vanquished is not flashy. It is a collection of five honest, rootsy Americana tunes, and I am looking forward to a full-length release from this Richmond quartet.
