Treaty of Paris - Sweet Dreams, Sucker Review

by J Simpson

.
After the very first listen to the Treaty of Paris debut album I was ready to chalk them up as just another irrelevant bubble gum pop rock indie band that sounds like so many others out there right now. I started thinking to myself "I'm gonna have to give these guys 1 or 1.5 stars". Then after a couple more listens they started to sway my opinionbut only slightly. The songs on this disc show an attempt at separating themselves from all the other countless groups occupying this genre but alas they regrettably fall short. Don't get me wrong, there are some catchy danceable tunes in this 12 track collection and the vocal harmonies hold their own but if you're looking for originality or music that undeniably stands out, you won't find it here. A couple highlights on the disc would be Waking Up The Dead or New Improved which harkens back to a sock hop or malt shop juke box music.

This 5 piece band from Chicago IL seem to have the heart and ability to create their own prominent music and in their next offering we might get that allusive original sound which sets a band up and apart from the competition but with this disc, I would have to categorize it as average, nothing more, nothing less. Good luck next time boys, I'm pulling for ya.
