School Boy Humor

What's so great about School Boy Humor is their innocence and youth which is blissfully tainted ever so slightly with the sound of experience.

Despite the obvious influence of Blink 182, for a young band, the four-man outfit behind School Boy Humor has a big sound. Phil Evans, lead guitar and vocals, is a lyrical powerhouse despite his lack of years. Additional band members Caleb Spillyards, vocals/bass, Anthony Evans, guitar/vocals and Greg Scherer, drums, round out the band's infectious sound, adding energy and pop to the group.

Their self-titled, full-length debut album, School Boy Humor, (Vagrant, February 2009). produced by the Geoff Rockwell (Forever The Sickest Kids, Sky Eats Airplane), is full of unexpected surprisescomplicated guitar riffs accompanied by driving rhythm and textured overlays. To say that they like big hooks is an understatement. "Camera Shy" boasts some intricate guitar manipulation and gritty vocals and is destined to be a chart topper. "Turn it Up" is raw and edgy with the intent of dragging the listener into the song, "This is Your Life" and "Don't Look Back" have that sweet sound of optimism pouring forth from the lips of those that have the rest of their lives ahead of them, and who can afford the price it bears. Other golden tracks "Everyone who Breathes" and "Cheating Myself".

While School Boy Humor does teeter on some moments of repetitious sound, a slight that through extensive touring and hardening-up will undoubtedly correct, overall, their energy, passion, and drive will take them to the top.
