B Sides for 04/10/2015
Swift wrote, "I'm writing to you with an update I wish I wasn't giving you, but it's important and I'm used to sharing important events in my life with you. Usually when things happen to me, I process them and then write music about how I feel, and you hear it much later. This is something my family and I thought you should know about now. "For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine. She agreed, and went in to get checked. There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother off her case about it. "The results came in, and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know. "She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle' Or peace of mind in knowing that they're healthy and there's nothing to worry about. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She's got an important battle to fight. "Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you. "I hope and pray that you never get news like this. Love you. Taylor"
Quan faces a misdemeanor battery charge and will be booked into Miami-Dade jail. But his lawyer maintains his innocence. "There's a civil suit that's been filed, it's all about monetary gain, taking advantage of a celebrity and that's the whole situation. That's why we're here and the truth will come out," his attorney Rick Corona said. "The truth will come out. Our client is innocent and the truth will come out' our client did not throw any punches and the truth will come out." Read more here.
Of course, this isn't the first time the Biebz has showed up on stage with Grande to sing this song, but unlike that last time in March, he did manage to get all the words right. Good job, Bieber. Later in the show, Bieber even returned to sing 'All That Matters" off Journals alongside Grande. And to top it all off, Grande helped out on Bieber's 'As Long As You Love Me," showing off her rap skills. Read more here.

Called "Let Me Drake That For You," the new search engine takes any word or phrase you type and finds any connection to the Canadian rapper that the Internet has to offer. Type "puppies" and you'll find Drake holding a puppy. Type "pandas" and you sadly don't get Drake playing with baby pandas, but just some weird John Mellencamp/Drake mashup. Read more here.
Mumford & Sons' have revealed "Wolf," the newest taste of their new album, "Wilder Mind," out next month. Like "Believe" before it, the song finds the British rockers trading acoustic for electric, adding a drum kit where a single bass drum once stood. "You were all I ever longed for," frontman Marcus Mumford sings before the band breaks into a fast-paced bridge typified by pulsing bass and quickfire drums. It lacks the usual slow-building sound of many of Mumford's previous songs, opting instead for a fairly focused attack from the start. "The Wolf" is the second song to be revealed from Wilder Mind, the band's third studio album and first since their GRAMMY win for Album of the Year for Babel in 2013. It follows "Believe," the album's lead single, a No. 1 song in the U.S. already on the Alternative Songs chart. Check out the song here.
But, according to Complex, the most interesting detail, besides the very unexpected release, is that track 11 on the album lists Kanye West and Lil Wayne--credited by his real name Dwayne Carter--as composers on the track. Kanye has always made it clear he's a big Tyler fan, sticking up for him when that Mountain Dew commercial he directed was banned for being too controversial. Read more here.
Lemmy tells Full Metal Jackie: "We brought a kid out of a coma once. We made tapes and they played them to him in hospital - and he came out of his coma." The Motorhead legend says the boy was the only one to recover from a ward full of people in a similar condition, and adds: "That is worth my whole career." Read more here.
Of course, after repeated viewings, maybe the clip starts to grow stale and needs a little something to punch it up. Enter Taylor Swift. When the visuals for the new True Detective season are mashed up with her "I Knew You Were Trouble," the clip becomes a little less moody, and a little more awesome. Does Taylor Swift make everything better? This new True Detective trailer mashup with the Swift song argues a resounding yes to this question. Check it out here.
Leary stars as "Johnny Rock," lead singer of a legendary early 90s New York band called The Heathens. Known for living up to their name, the band partied so long and so hard that even Keith Richards thought they needed to slow things down. The Heathens were on the brink of becoming famous for their kickass live shows and the release of their highly anticipated first albumuntil they broke up. The same day the album dropped. Because lead guitarist Flash (John Corbett) found Johnny in bed with his wife. So the band became legendary for all the wrong reasons - like self-destructing sooner than any group in rock 'n' roll history. 25 years later, the only thing bigger than Johnny's ego is his prostate. The drugs he really needs now aren't cocaine and marijuana - they're Crestor, Cymbalta, and Cialis. He's out of work, out of money, and out of show business options. That's when a massively talented young singer named Gigi (Elizabeth Gillies) shows up - with a burning desire to be famous, a throwback appreciation for The Heathens' only album, and a stack of cash big enough to bring the whole band back into the studio. Only this time, SHE'S the lead singer and Johnny's just a behind the scenes songwriter. John Ales, Bobby Kelly, and Elaine Hendrix round out the rest of this dysfunctional rock and roll family. The race is on to see who gets famous first - and for what reason. Leary explains the importance of the music elements of the show, "In the studio, we had the benefit of great musicians like Greg Dulli and Dave Rosser from The Afghan Whigs, and legendary New York guitarist Adam Roth from The Jim Carroll Band and The Del Fuegos. Not to mention also Alec Morton from Raging Slab on bass, famed keyboard artist Tommy Mandell, and ex-Ozzy Osbourne drummer Charly Roth. We've all known each other for decades and have a great studio shorthand, and Adam and Charly Roth were on-set as tech advisors. We aimed from the get-go to capture and use live vocals from the filmed performances, as well as live instrumentation in many of the scenes. I think the audience will recognize that almost every time Liz Gillies and I sing on the show, we are singing live - right in the room. I think film and TV audiences are savvy enough to know what's real and what's not when it comes to rock and roll. We also have a secret ingredient that no other music show has: comedy. There are a lot of really funny musical moments on this show - like our bass player Rehab's rock opera, 'An Gorta Mor' - a song cycle consisting of 29 songs about the Irish Potato Famine of the 1840's. It sends up the pretentious side of rock n' roll. He dreams of bringing it to Broadway like so many rock artists before him have - from Sting to Paul Simon to Green Day. The only thing missing from Rehab's plan? Talent." "My character, Johnny Rock, writes a song combining the style points of Radiohead and Morrissey. I'm pretty sure its the first time those two names have been included in the same song. Liz Gillies is obviously a massively talented singer, John Corbett sings and plays guitar, and Elaine Hendrix has a gorgeous voice. Those were really non-negotiable requirements for all three of those roles. I do my usual combination of Iggy Pop and Axl Rose - I'm more of a screamer, with a limited crooning range. To their credit, Bobby Kelly actually learned how to play the drums, and John Ales got pretty good on the bass before we started shooting." "The other thing that is essential on this show was my working relationship with Chris Phillips. We go back 35 years, when we started writing funny songs for The Emerson Comedy Workshop, at Emerson College in Boston. Chris co-wrote 'The A**hole Song' with me - and many others. Having him producing in the studio and co-writing some of the songs with me - as well as penning 'An Gorta Mor' all by himself - I could NOT have done this show without him." Check out the preview here.
Angels and Alcohol is the country singer's 15th studio album and the followup to his 2013 release, The Bluegrass Album, which featured several covers of bluegrass standards. Also of note, Jackson wrote seven of the 10 songs that appear on his upcoming release, Angels and Alcohol. Check out the tracklisting and songwriter details here.
The tour is part of CMT's "Next Women" campaign, launched in 2013 with the aim of generating attention and airplay for emerging female country artists. It has featured Kacey Musgraves, Brandy Clark, Cassadee Pope and Ashley Monroe. "I am beyond excited to be a part of the first Next Women of Country tour," Kramer said in a press release. "I'm a big advocate for us girls sticking together and encouraging each other. I can't wait to see everyone on the road!" See the dates here.
The drummer has finished his work on what will be the group's 10th album and the follow-up to 2013's The Living Infinite. Singer Bjorn Stride is ready to start recording his vocals in the coming days. Verbeuren tells Dead Rhetoric: "In general, I can say that it's going to be a little bit of a different twist on things this time. I think the album has a pretty aggressive and dark undertone to it. There's quite a bit of aggression in it, and some heavy crushing [sounds], and then some fast songs. "I felt a bit more like a barbarian playing my drums on this one. I felt that some of the songs needed not so much frills and complicated and technical stuff but just straight-up hammering, and drums in your face. "That was some of the vibe, but it's definitely going to sound like a Soilwork record. I have no doubt about that. We are always trying to let our feelings of the moment speak, and it will be interesting to see how it comes out." Read more here.
Ford's new studio album Into The Sun was released last month via Mascot Label Group, featuring guest appearances by Warren Haynes, Keb' Mo' and others. Ford recently explained: "The rule was to have no lid on things. I made sure there was room for new ideas and everything my collaborators brought to the music. "When you're open to different concepts and approaches, the most beautiful things can happen." Watch the video here.
And while he loves the 'meet and greet' sessions that are a part of modern touring, he says it's easy to ruin your reputation if you're not at your best all the time. He says: "I don't want anyone to go away with this idea that I'm an a**hole. With the age of the internet, bad news travels fast. You can be nice as pie to 99 fans. And if you're a little bit short with that 100th fan, you've had a bad show or you've got a cold, he or she is the one that will go on the internet and say, 'Steve Wilson's such as a**hole.' "Suddenly that goes viral. I'm aware of that and I've been a victim of that so I try to be what I need to be." Read more and watch the episode here.
Additional performers for the event include Bentley, Will Hoge, Clare Dunn, Joey Hyde, James Otto, Dee Jay Silver, Montgomery Gentry and Thompson Square. The ride itself will have two starting points, one at Strokers Dallas and the other at Longhorn Harley-Davidson, and ends at Maverick Harley-Davidson in Carrollton, Texas. Read more here.
"Dear Southwest, I planned to get engaged on a Southwest flight as my girlfriend flew home 'alone' after visiting me. I work odd hours, so the day my girlfriend was supposed to leave, I woke her up around 3:30 AM to say goodbye and 'left for the airport.' I instead drove to the Detroit airport and got on her flight. After takeoff, a flight attendant announced that a debit card with my girlfriend's name on it had been found. When they handed it to her, 'See You Tonight' by Scotty McCreery started playing. I walked up from the back row, took the intercom and proposed!" McCreery read the story while on a recent Southwest flight and was so moved that he is hoping to meet the newly engaged couple. 'It's awesome that 'See You Tonight' is now their proposal song," McCreery said. "That song was my first top 10 hit and I loved writing it with Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell. It's already brought me a lot of luck and great memories, and I hope it does the same for Greg and his fiancee." Read more here.
At the end of the clip, Diesel waves the camera off, saying, "You get it." Diesel also revealed he named his daughter Pauline after Walker "to keep his memory a part of my memory." Meanwhile, Wiz Khalifah and Chris Jamison, sitting in for usual hook crooner Charlie Puth, performed "See You Again" on The Voice Wednesday night (April 8). Watch here.
"My album coming when I say that ain't true stay down its [sic] coming!" he tweeted following a post from Revolt--which has since been deleted--claiming the record was coming April 14. Don't blame folks for getting excited. Dreams Worth More Than Money has been teased since last year, originally scheduled for a September 2014 release before the rapper's incarceration due to having his probation revoked in July. The label say: "It's a radically stripped-down record that emphasized rhythm and groove. It bursts forth with a new kind of intensity, born out of laser-focused prevision and detail-oriented songwriting. "This is propulsive, open music - surreal to its core, but made to inspire people to get out of their seats and move." White Hills launch their European tour with two UK dates this week.
