Wiz ended up with a misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge and had to spend time in a jail cell. But before he posted his $300 bail, Wiz snapped a "jail selfie" that he posted to Twitter - which is now coming back to haunt him. El Paso police had asked that Wiz hand over his phone at the time and, after seeing the selfie, they've now launched an investigation as to how Wiz was able to sneak in his phone - and a judge has issued a warrant for the arrest after Wiz failed to show appear in court on Wednesday, according to TMZ. more on this story
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miley's concert special, which aired over July 4th weekend on NBC, received a few complaints-three to be exact-from the more than the two million viewers who tuned in, leading to an investigation from the Federal Communications Commission. Yes, three might seem like a paltry number, but even still, the FCC is in the process of determining if the show actually did violate its rules against broadcast indecency or profanity. The special showed concert footage and behind the scenes moments from Miley's stops in Barcelona and Lisbon earlier this year. During the special, Miley was shown doing a sexy dance with a man dressed like Abraham Lincoln, which did not seem right to one viewer. "Her performance was impropriate [sic] for broadcast TV, as she grinded along there was a costumed performer depicting President Lincoln following behind her and alongside her and the character acted quite lecherous even patting her on the backside," one of the complaints read. "Very patriotic for the 4th ya think?" more on this story
Raekwon, GZA, RZA, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and Cappadonna all sat down with Stewart (yes, they managed to fit around his desk), who thanked the guys for coming by for this historic moment. The nine members discussed how hard it is to keep things together and announced that their new album will be out in November. They also paid tribute to Ol' Dirty Bastard with a T-shirt that they gave to Stewart as a present. The host says he will be wearing it to bed. Along with playing their 1997 track "Triumph," the guys also debuted a new song, "Ron O'Neal," which starts with Method Man declaring, "Coach, put me in the game" over a blaring horn and later has RZA calling out his narcissistic ways. Apparently Raekwon really knocked some sense into him. Watch the clip of "Ron O'Neal" here.
The song hit the Internet shortly before 3 p.m. ET, noon PT, which was teased according to a tweet from Juicy J last night. A 30-second sample originally appeared online and showcases what appears to be the chorus of the tune. There's a minimalist beat going on, with the rapper's echoing rhymes giving way to multiple declarations of how "low" everything is. Nicki steps in to spit a quick-and-dirty verse that includes a Scottie Pippen reference. "Me, Nicki M, I got too many wins / Pull up with them v twins in my engine," she raps. "All this ice all around me like a penguin / I ain't talking bowling but I'm with the king pin." Check out the full song stream here.
In the end, we (and probably all of her over 42 million Twitter followers) assumed it was Taylor's way of letting us know she was going to make a big announcement about the follow-up to 2012's Red very soon. Now she's shared a second clue, that is leaving us with more questions than answers. The photo is a screenshot of her adorable Scottish fold kitten, Olivia Benson, sitting on a bookshelf, taken at 5 o'clock. But look around and you'll see little things here and there which might give things away, like that old school Polaroid camera and boxes of film and that watercolor painting of New York City that seems to feature the message, "To beautiful friends, in a beautiful home." more on this story
Billboard reports that the app, available for iPhone and Android in the Apple and Google app stores, will let fans select their city, choose Drake or Lil Wayne and "button mash" to help their side "power up" during their rap battle to impact the live performances. "We are both thrilled that our fans will get the unique opportunity to join us in this interactive experience," Drake and Lil Wayne said in a joint press release statement. more on this story
"I fought him on it the whole time," Grande told the magazine. "'I am not going to sing a grammatically incorrect lyric, help me God!' Max was like, 'It's funny - just do it!' I know it's funny and silly, but grammatically incorrect things make me cringe sometimes." The lyrics in question: "I only wanna die alive" and "Now that I've become who I really are." Eventually, Grande conceded. "I was like, whatever, let's do it and have some fun," she said. "I need to shake it off and let it go and be a little less rigid and old. I'm like, 90. I need to not be that old." more on this story
Williams and Tyler will be joined on this year's roster by Rick Ross, Mac Miller, Earl Sweatshirt and The Internet. The festival will also include solo sets from Odd Future members Hodgy Beats, Left Brain, Domo Genesis, and Mike G. The show will include performances from Action Bronson, The Grouch and Eligh, Murs, Freddie Gibbs, Step Brothers, Trash Talk, Vince Staples, Cherry Glazerr, Dem Atlas and more. MTV unveiled a promo for the Beyonc award and performance compiling various looks from her Beyonc visual album and set to the music of Led Zeppelin. more on this story
The auction is set to feature over 2,000 items, including an Ariel Cyclone motorcycle originally owned by the great Buddy Holly and gifted by him to Jennings, who was Holly's bass player on his final tour. Oh, and then there's Willie Nelson's braids, which he cut off in 1983 to support Jennings' road to sobriety. Yes, you can own Willie Nelson's hair. Also in the auction: the original signed contract for the establishment of the Highwaymen, a handwritten letter to Jennings from John Lennon and a custom pair of Nudie cowboy boots emblazoned with a white "H" for original owner Hank Williams. more on this story
Some of the biggest hits of the year, by the likes of Chris Brown, Rae Sremmurd, K. Camp, Wiz Khalifa, Schoolboy Q, Migos, Usher and Rich Homie Quan, receive remixes from Busta and his affiliates, including O.T. Genasis and Chinx Drugz. Of particular note is Busta and Azealia Banks' remix of "Partition," which trades in Beyonce's luxurious lovemaking for something grittier; you probably wouldn't hear Queen B talking about "swallowing seed," as Busta phrases it. Banks jumps in the drivers seat and unleashes a fast-paced barrage of guttural bars, another counterpoint to the original's silky sheen. more on this story
The songs, apparently recorded/released around May 2012, when Lorde was 15, are off an album called Characters. The whole album can be found on Bandcamp. Lorde wasn't exactly the leader of the group, it appears - most of the songs had a male lead - but the "Royals" singer pops up on a few tracks, including contributing lead vocals on "Piece of Mind." The band cites its influences as the Mars Volta, Fugazi, Battles and PJ Harvey, the songs having a definite oddball, offbeat mentality to them, with guitar, bass and drums sometimes complemented by more unique instrumentation. more on this story
The newcomer Pryme holds his own, but this round goes to the heavyweights: French drops bars with his trademark charismatic laziness, while Jada goes straight for the neck. "They On It," yesterday today (Aug. 7), is the sonic representation of every dude who's ever knocked a beer out of your hand for no reason or hollered at your girl outside a bodega. Listen here.
The 12-track record, out Nov. 4, features Zac Brown Band on "Black Water," Chris Young helping out on "China Grove" and Blake Shelton singing on "Listen to the Music" with Hunter Hayes on guitar. In an interview earlier this year with Radio.com, Sara Evans - who sings on "What a Fool Believes"-expressed her excitement to be a part of the album. "They're singing all their hits with different artists and they let me choose which song I wanted to sing," she told Radio.com. "Sometimes I'll think things through before I answer questions or requests like that, but I immediately wrote back, 'Yes of course! I love the Doobie Brothers!'" Apparently, Evans wasn't the only one who just couldn't say no. Check out the full tracklist for the album, out Nov. 4, here.
The video, set in a rural area that could be the American South, is all about teens doing what teens do in the summertime: river rafting, blazing through the country road on a pickup truck while lighting fireworks, riding ATVs, and having way more fun than adults do when school's out. While previous video "Hunger of the Pine" was shot by Lana Del Rey collaborator Nabil, "Left Hand Free" gets an assist for Ryan Staake, who's helmed videos for Diplo and Major Lazer, among others. Watch it here.
Tyga took to his Twitter and Instagram accounts to reveal a release date and tweeted that "The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty" will be hitting stores on November 18th. While a tracklist has yet to drop, it's rumored Kanye West will be executive producing the album. The rapper has said Gold Album will be more straight hip-hop than previous releases. more on this story
"You'll notice that it's me singing and that will really tie it together," Bush joked in a recent interview with Radio.com. The country singer-songwriter said he spent the past two years writing for the album. "I overwrote for the album," he said. "The thematic connection between them has been a little bit elusive. I traditionally write about everything in life but it's all connected through me as the lens. This one I chose to call Southern Gravity. It's mainly based off this interesting conversation I have as I travel. The further I get away from the South, the more the conversation turns to the South." Bush said the South is a very unique space on earth and he wants to paint an accurate picture for listeners through his release, which includes many love songs. "They're all just thinly veiled love songs because who doesn't love a love song?" The first single off of Southern Gravity is "Trailer Hitch," which came to be after a writer friend of his walked out the door and said, "I've never seen a hearse with a trailer hitch." "As we went through it, it was very easy to walk into the shoes of, 'Let's write a song that's fun that has a message that also matters. Let's just not bang over anybody's head with it.' We probably have one too many things in our life. All of us. We can probably give at least one of them back or away," he said. "You can't take it with you when you go. It is a question and it isn't an answer of a song. It's just a question, why do we all want to die rich? Isn't there something we can do with that?" more on this story
"Having him headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show would not only be overly accepted by the millions of views, but it would remain true to the standards and quality of the show business we have come to love and respect out of this prestigious event," Ball writes in his statement of intent. Ball goes on to suggest the artist he parodies could join Yankovic in the performance, along with assorted celebrities to amp up the "star power." "The theatrics alone would be hilarious and a welcoming change, and draw a wider audience of fans that typically would not tune into the championship game or half-time show," Ball says in conclusion. The song, the first cut from their upcoming album A Better Tomorrow, takes its name from the actor who played Youngblood Priest in the Blaxploitation classic Super Fly. Judging by the live percussion, buttery horns, and lush R&B hook, the sound of that era is on RZA's mind. Verses from Method Man, Ghostface Killah and RZA himself round out the equation. Ghostface hasn't lost any of his attention to the nitty-gritty details of street violence: "A few staircase murders, some burners don't blam right / Guns that peek around the wall, you better stand tight /AKs, wylin' in lobbies / Bulletproof PJ's / F*** around and get spun like a DJ." "I think we've been so blessed to have the same job for the past 21 years and not hurt nobody doing it," Method Man said about the reunion on The Daily Show. "As soon as we came together for one common cause, we knew that what we were doing was something different and something great. And it showed and proved in the end." Listen to the track here.
The cover retains the darkness of the Cobain original, but strips away the fuzz and the drums and lets Kiesza's voice carry the performance, which it is more than capable of doing. Kiesza's rendition of "Heart Shaped Box" was performed as part of her appearance on NME's Basement Sessions. Nice to see this next generation of pop star paying Nirvana with the proper tribute; kinda makes us wanna go back to the Bronze and slow dance with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Watch it here.
