Report for 12/02/05
311 Slapps Stapp
Day in Rock reports: [The following came from one of our regular readers] According to SA Martinez of 311. Scott Stapp was in the same Hotel/Hotel Bar in Baltimore on Thanksgiving night. Apparently Mr. Stapp showed up to the lounge in the Hotel while the boys from 311 were enjoying the Laker game. [The following comes from 311's website] "[Stapp] appeared intoxicated. He drank a shot at the bar and then threw his shot glass, smashing it on the bar. He was acting belligerent and got into an argument with patrons sitting at the bar. He then sat down next to SA and his wife. He made a disrespectful and crude remark to SA's wife. Chad and SA asked him to step away. He then sucker-punched Chad." According to SA on KROQ yesterday, "I laid Scott Stapp out" and then Chad finished the job. Hotel Security and Baltimore Police showed up. No arrests were made and Mr. Stapp was made to check out of the hotel immediately. [There are various reports on the web about this. The Hotel security hotel director told AP that he has film of the fight and it appears that 311 attacked Stapp. Billboard reports that the Baltimore Police have no record of officers responding to a call to the hotel. We could not find an official comment from the Stapp camp beyond a "no comment" given to E! You can read 311's account at the full story link]

Taste of Chaos Details
antiMusic reports: So you want a little Taste of Chaos? You're in luck, Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman has organized another run of the Winter festival tour. As reported earlier this week, they have quite the line up in store for 06 edition of the tour including Thrice, Deftones, Story of the Year, As I Lay Dying, Atreyu and more (see full list below). But what you didn't know was where this little bit of chaos was gonna take place. You're in luck. We happened upon the official dates and they are posted below.

Some overpriced, under energized energy drink has singed on as the "title" sponsor of the tour. Oh yeah, they call it Rock Star Energy Drink and they will supposedly be giving away free samples at the shows instead of charging the ordinary $1 or $2 bucks an oz. Hot Topic, Best Buy and more of the usual suspects are also sponsoring the tour.

US Dates:
February 16 - San Diego, CA - San Diego Sports Arena
February 17 - Phoenix, AZ - Mesa Amphitheatre
February 18 - El Paso, TX - County Coliseum

Kitty Rock
FMQB reports: After receiving critical acclaim for 2003's full-length debut, Fever To Tell, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are poised to drop the follow-up sometime next year. However, the songs' themes may surprise fans used to Karen O's sexually-charged lyrics. According to producer Squeak E. Clean (aka Sam Spiegel aka director Spike Jonze's brother), the new album is based around the life and times of Karen's pet cat. Seriously.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Arch Enemy on Maiden Egging
Blabbermouth reports: Arch Enemy Mike Amott, "That's not how you treat a legendary heavy metal band at least that's the way I see it. At the same time, it didn't feel like it was my battle. It was Bruce Dickinson on one side and Sharon Osbourne on the other. Both are multi-millionaires and maybe have egos to back it up. [The dispute] had nothing to do with us and was solely between these two camps. It just seemed ridiculous that something like that was taken to that level. The problems should have been solved backstage, with them getting into a fight there or something. It shouldn't have happened on stage, as it affected the audience who had bought super-expensive tickets just to have their IRON MAIDEN concert ruined."[see full story for more on this and find out about their reaction to seeing another man naked on stage at $haronfest]- Click Here for the Full Story

From Crown To Stolen Policecar
Blabbermouth reports: STOLEN POLICECAR, the new Swedish band featuring former THE CROWN bassist Magnus Olsfelt, are currently mixing their debut album at Studio MT with producer Marko Tervonen (ANGEL BLAKE, ex-THE CROWN). The group, who are currently unsigned, will present the finished album to interested labels.

Commented Tervonen: "From a producer's point of view, I must say that the album is simply phenomenal. I have always had a huge respect for Magnus as a songwriter and this time the man is f***ing peaking. And the whole band is a very strong unit. We recorded 14 songs and the end result is a pretty diverse album with sounds from punk, rock, metal, Seattle... to... simply timeless rock anthems.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

EFF Calls DMCA Reform A Crock
tinfoil.music reports: Congress has instructed the U.S. Copyright Office to consider every three years whether we need temporary exemptions to the DMCA's blanket ban on circumventing "technological protection measures" (aka DRM) used to lock up copyrighted works.

EFF has participated in each of the two prior rulemakings (in 2000 and 2003), each time asking the Copyright Office to create exemptions for perfectly lawful consumer uses for digital media that are encumbered by DRM restrictions. For example, we asked that DVD owners be allowed to skip those "unskippable" ads at the beginning of DVDs. We asked that people who bought copy-protected CDs be allowed to get them to play on their computer. We asked that consumers be allowed to bypass region coding to play a DVD purchased in another part of the world. The Copyright Office rejected all of these proposals. This year, we are not submitting any proposals.[see full story on why they feel the system is broken]- Click Here for the Full Story
