Tax |
FMQB reports: Lawmakers in New Jersey and
Wisconsin are considering taxing online music downloads with a state tax.
Nicknamed the "iPod tax," it would be collected on purchases of any digital
content. Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle has already proposed the tax in his state,
though some members of the legislature are already saying they will block
the proposal. "It's an issue of tax equity," said Jessica Iverson, a spokeswoman
for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, told CNet.com. "If you go into
a Main Street business and purchase a CD, you are paying tax." [see full

Blur
Vs Blur |
Ananova reports: Blur's bassist Alex James
has revealed that the band are suing each other.
Speaking to Orange World he said: "It's
a shame really. I thought we might all get together again for Live 8 and
try and save the world but no.
"I think my management and my lawyer are
both having mental breakdowns. It's mad, it's the hardest thing ever -
a combination of new technology and aging rockstars." [see full story for

Rufio
Robbed |
press release reports: RUFIO, currently on
the road with Alkaline Trio in support of their upcoming release, The Comfort
of Home, had the misfortune of losing all of their gear, merch and luggage
last night when the bands trailer was stolen after their show in Montreal,
Quebec.
The band issued the following statement
today to their fans, asking for their help: Hey Everyone, After an amazing
show in Montreal we returned to our hotel to find our trailer containing
all of our music equipment, merchandise, and luggage, gone. Police officials
say the trailer was unhitched from the van and pushed back with enough
room for a vehicle to reattach itself to the trailer and leave with the
trailer in tow. Needless to say, all of us in Rufio are in a state of despondency
and are asking for any help you can give to get us back on our feet. These
people took our livelihoods and everything we have from us. If you can
find it in you to give even $10, we would deeply appreciate it. You can
donate money by sending money to rufio@newnoisemanagement.com through PayPal

B.I.G.
Denial |
Los Angeles Times reports: A man testified
today that a document he signed linking the murder of singer Notorious
B.I.G. to rap competitor Death Row Records is false.
Kevin Hackie told jurors in federal court
today he never told attorneys for the family of the slain rapper, Christopher
Wallace, that ex-LAPD officer David A. Mack worked for the rap record label.
The family's lawsuit against the City of
Los Angeles hinges on proof that Mack, who has denied any involvement,
planned Wallace's murder in 1997. [see full story for more]-

Corgan
Speaks |
Blabbermouth reports: Billy Corgan spoke to
Jim Derogatis of the Chicago Sun-Times about his decision to announce the
reunion of the SMASHING PUMPKINS
"The door is clearly open," the star said
when asked if he will perform again with the best-known lineup of drummer
Jimmy Chamberlin, guitarist James Iha and bassist D'Arcy Wretzky. "What
I've done is I've set the intention. It's going to happen."
Does that mean that Corgan has spoken with
his former bandmates?
"I don't want to talk about the specifics,"
he said. "I'm just going to take the CIA route of 'mum's the word.' The
door is open. Here's the thing: I am ready to go back to the work of the
band."[see full story for more]- Click

Five Special: James "JY" Young From Styx |
James "JY" Young (Styx)'s Top Five Albums
of All Time!
Today we hear from James "JY" Young, a
founding member of Styx.
5. Bo Diddley Is A Gunslinger
- Bo Diddley: The first vinyl LP I ever purchased; I am to this day
learning by revisiting this record. How many thousands of people
have been influenced by the Bo Diddley-beat and those amazing maracas?
(samples
/ buy cd)
4. Highway To Hell AC/DC:
Adolescent rebellion is at the core of all rock music. These guys led the
heavy metal convoy to the place we're all probably destined to go.
(samples
/ buy cd)
3. The Inner Mounting Flame - Mahavishnu
Orchestra: Another group of individuals, who I thought initially
were from another planet, who applied classical and jazz virtuosity with
rock instrumentation and a sprinkling of Eastern philosophy.
(samples
/ buy cd)
2. Aqualung - Jethro Tull:
This is an album that combines classical elements with rock guitar and
the incredible intelligence, insightful, and unapologetic irreverence for
all things created by man.
(samples
/ buy cd)
1. Are You Experienced - Jimi
Hendrix: Hendrix combined the African American blues experience with
the psychedelic trends emanating from the Timothy Leary-maharishi spirit
permeating Britain. Here's this man from another galaxy and this
is the album that changed it all... for me.
(samples
/ buy cd)
About Styx: The timing for this
special couldn't have been better to include JY as Styx just released "Big
Bang Theory," an album that features covers of some of their favorite songs.
The band is currently touring Europe to support the album and will return
to the states early next month to kick off their North American tour.
