Wrong
Thing To Do |
antiMusic reports: Jack White, he is so revolutionary
and original. Name one band from the past that sounds like the White Stripes
(ok... you just named a dozen… sorry). But his videos are so cutting edge
and when we heard he was going to lend his tremendous talent and originality
to sell Coca Cola we just had to pop open a cold one and smile, waiting
in anticipation for this latest nail in the coffin of music credibility
where rock becomes even more corporate and yadda yadda yadda, we're sick
of ranting on this subject.
Earlier this week the new Coke ad featuring
White's musical backdrop "The Right Thing To Do" was leaked onto YouTube.
(Gee wonder who did that? Let's create a buzz and sell more Coke! ) Some
were taken by the creativity and originality of the clip. Turns out it
wasn't so original. The Tripwire being the fine folks that they are have
uncovered what may have inspired the new Coke ad-- Japanese director Nagi
Noda's music video for the song "Sentimental Journey". Was stealing the
idea the "right thing to do?" Stay tuned for lawsuit news… but until then
if you want to contrast and compare, click over to The Tripwire and they
will hook you up with links to both videos.- Click

Buckcharting |
Press Release reports: Just in time to save
rock n’ roll from a perilous fate, indie Eleven Seven Music’s label debut,
Buckcherry’s Fifteen, enters the charts at #2 on the Independent Album
Chart, #9 Top Alternative Albums (highest debut), as well as #48 on the
Top 200 chart.
A triumphant return for a band that has
not released a record in four years, alternative rock torchbearers Buckcherry
have been ‘bucking’ the system with the video for the first single, “Crazy
Bitch,” a clarion call to all the ladies who make men’s fantasies come
true. The video, a montage of strippers cast from an open call on the band’s
MySpace page, perpetuates the non-traditional marketing of Fifteen.[see

Viking
Skull |
Chipster reports: Formed by assorted members
of the Raging Speedhorn band and crew, Viking Skull thrives on the singularly
alcoholic maxim best stated by Roddy Stone, RSH’s long time guitar tech:
“It’s gonna be easy. All we gotta do is get in, get fucked and get out.”
Roddy, lead vocalist and guitarist of Viking Skull, heads a lineup consisting
of guitarist Darren Smith, drummer Gordon Morisson and bassist Waldie.
With a ballsy swagger that fits neatly between early Black Sabbath and
latter-day Corrosion Of Conformity, Viking Skull provide solid proof that
the United Kingdom is still the undisputed home of hard rock music.
On Viking Skull’s debut full-length album,
Born In Hell, inspiration comes from the most obvious of places. The foursome
from Corby, United Kingdom, eschews a gritty, hard-driving form of hard
rock fueled by beer and whiskey with women on the brain. The true charm
of Viking Skull lies in their unabashed desire to rock, drink and womanize;
all the while churning out songs detailing their exploits. Born In Hell
will be re-released in the U.S. on May 16th, 2006. Be prepared: The Skull
has come to fuck you up.[see full story for more]- Click

Too
$hort Plans Release |
Audible Treats reports: Too $hort, the player's
player, is ready to help bring attention back to the Bay scene. With the
recent exposure E-40 brought to The Bay and Cali in general, it's the perfect
time for Too $hort to release an album. Whereas 40 is pushing the hyphy
movement, Too $hort is a little more removed from it. Too $hort is staying
more to his Oakland pimp/Mack Daddy roots, which has always been his persona.
This forthcoming album will be Too $hort's
16th album. This album is either going to be entitled "Up All Nite" or
"Blow The Whistle" and will be released in mid June on Jive Records. More
details to come. [see full story for the uncensored version of "Blow The

Astral
Doors and Grave Digger |
Kayos reports: May 9 will see the release
of Astralism by Astral Doors and the double-CD 25 to Live by Grave Digger
on Locomotive Records.
In 1984, Grave Digger released its classic
Heavy Metal Breakdown debut. Since then, it has become one of Germany’s
leading headbang machines. Founding member Chris Boltendahl has set a vocal
standard, even penning an auto-biography, Grave Digger: die definitive
Biografie. Like their friends in Helloween, Running Wild, Sinner and Destruction,
Grave Digger has sculpted its own sound and its own vision to become a
model of consistency, living proof of the “Made In Germany” stamp of Metal.
Recorded live in 2005 at shows in Brazil, 25 To Live spotlights tracks
from such stellar Grave Digger albums as Heart Of Darkness, Tunes Of War,
Knights Of The Cross, Excaliber, The Grave Digger, Rheingold and The Last
Supper.[see full story for more]- Click

Ponderosa
Stomp Details |
conqueroo reports: The roll call for the fifth
annual Ponderosa Stomp, which benefits the New Orleans Musicians Clinic
and MusiCares, reads like DJ Daddy-O Dewey Phillips’ play list blended
with a bowl of Louisiana gumbo and filtered through Sam Phillips’ Memphis
dream team, with plenty of Northwest garage rock, Gulf Coast psychedelic
fuzz, and Bo Diddley-inspired beats thrown in for good measure.
More than 60 legendary artists are slated
to play at the event, described as a celebration “of the unsung heroes
of blues, soul, rockabilly, swamp pop and New Orleans R&B,” which will
take place May 8, 9 & 10, 2006, on the rooftop of the Gibson Guitar
Factory in downtown Memphis, overlooking fabled Beale Street and the Mississippi
River. [see full story for full lineup]- Click
