Fatal Concert
soundgenerator.com reports: Ten people, all thought to be teenagers, died yesterday when a concert on the Indonesian island of Java by local stars Ungu ended in disaster.

Police say that all ten deaths were caused by the victims suffocating or being trampled to death when fans attempted to stampede the exit after the venue became dangerously overcrowded. Reports suggest up to an additional 2,000 people has managed to gain access to the concert[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Paul Westerberg Injured
Reuters reports: Paul Westerberg severely injured his left hand and could be sidelined for a year, according to a blog posting from Jim Walsh, a Minneapolis writer and friend of the former Replacements lead singer.

"A week or so again he put a screwdriver through his left hand trying to get some wax out of a candle and cut some nerves and ripped some cartilage and hurt himself pretty bad," Walsh reported. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

James Brown RIP
SMN reports: CNN reports: James Brown, the dynamic, pompadoured "Godfather of Soul," whose rasping vocals and revolutionary rhythms made him a founder of rap, funk and disco as well, died early Monday, his agent said. He was 73.

Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and died around 1:45 a.m. Monday, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music. Longtime friend Charles Bobbit was by his side, he said.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Stars Remember James Brown
DiR reports: Nas, Snoop and Ice Cube have all issued statements about the passing James Brown

"I had the opportunity to meet him and present an award to him this year with Al Shaprton , Jesse Jackson and others. I spoke in front of hundreds in his honor. I looked directly at him. He smiled while I told him how I used his music with mine and how much he's done for us and how I love him. I'm lucky to have had that moment, shook his hand. He was pure greatness." - Nas

"James Brown was the first solo singer that I loved as a kid. He was not only the Godfather of Soul, but the Godfather of Funk and Rap. Music will never be the same..." - Ice Cube

"I am hurt. That's my Godfather, my soul inspiration, the hardest working man in showbizness of all time. He'll be missed, but his music and his legacy will live on through me, in everyway you can imagine. Soul brother #1...we miss you James Brown." - Snoop Dogg

Johnny Depp a Queen?
Cat8Dog reports: Hollywood plans to make yet another movie about a dead rock star. Johnny Depp is supposedly in the running to play Freddie Mercury in a film about the late Queen singer. The Independent reports that "Robert de Niro's company, Tribeca Productions, is said to be behind the project" and that Queen's guitarist Brian May confirmed via his website that the film was in the early stages of development.

May said of Depp as Mercury, "He would be a worthy counterpart for Freddie on screen. I don't think I can say any more right now."[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Sir Bono?
Cat8Dog reports: U2 can be royalty. Wait a second, not really. Irish crusader and sometimes singer Bono is set to become a knight of the British Empire but the kicker is he won't really be a knight and you won't have to call him "Sir".

Bono will be given an honorary knighthood early in 2007 at the hands of the British ambassador to Ireland, David Reddaway. The ceremony will occur in Dublin, not England. But maybe it will be televised and we can watch via pay-per-view?[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Diddy Dog Fur Coats
Cat8Dog reports: Bad news for the suckers that purchased one of Sean "Diddy" Comb's shiddy "faux" fur coats, you are wearing Fido. That's right, Diddy can't even get faux fur right. But he has finally found a good use for dogs.

The Humane Society of the United States reportedly performed mass spectrometry testing on the Sean John coats and found that the "raccoon fur" was actually from the East Asian raccoon dog, which like Diddy looks like the real deal but isn't. The raccoon dog is actually a member of the canidae species, which includes dogs, wolves and foxes. So maybe it was supposed to be fox fur? Hip-hoppers are not always known for their spelling skillz. Disturbed Injuries
blabbermouth.net reports: The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that as many as 30 people were treated for various injuries at Tuesday night's (Dec. 19) Music as a Weapon Tour concert - featuring DISTURBED, STONE SOUR, FLYLEAF and NONPOINT - at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, according to the Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department. Between 25 to 30 people suffered from either cuts, bruises, and overheating after participating in a mosh pit, officials said. Two people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Officers said one passed out.

[from another report about a show a couple nights later] At least 13 people were injured during a "Music as a Weapon" concert Thursday night (Dec. 21), according to officials at two Cedar Rapids hospitals. The concert drew a crowd of 7,186 people, almost maxing out the U.S. Cellular Center, which can fit up to 7,500 people. Of the 10 people who were treated at St. Luke's Hospital for injuries suffered at the concert, one was taken into surgery, said Laura Rainey, director of marketing communications at St. Luke's. That patient was among two people who were admitted to the hospital. The others were treated and released. Rainey said it's "fairly rare" that the hospital gets patients injured at a concert but that "at times it does happen."[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

A Whiter Shade of Victory
AP reports: A judge awarded a 40 percent share in the copyright of "A Whiter Shade of Pale," one of the most famous pop songs of all time, to a former organist for Procol Harum.

Lead singer Gary Brooker and lyricist Keith Reid always claimed credit for the hit, which became part of the soundtrack for the hippy "summer of love" of 1967.

But in his ruling, the judge decided that organist Matthew Fisher was entitled to both credit and royalties.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Lennon FBI Files Released
AP reports: The FBI has released its final surveillance documents on John Lennon to a university historian who has waged a 25-year legal battle to obtain the secret files.

The 10 pages contain new details about Lennon's ties to leftist and anti-war groups in London in the early 1970s, but nothing indicating government officials considered the former Beatle a serious threat, historian Jon Wiener told the Los Angeles Times in Wednesday's editions.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Peach State rapper Young Jeezy single-handedly spanked Hicks-and a slew of other Idols-landing The Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102 atop the Billboard 200 album charts for the week ended Sunday. Jeezy's disc sold 352,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
