Sufjan Touring
thetripwire reports: Indie rock hottie Sufjan Stevens has just announced a string of tour dates in September and October. Sufjan is bringing with him a string ensemble and a brass section for this trek in an effort to present familiar songs from Seven Swans, Michigan and Illinois in a new, symphonic context (that what it says in the press release at least). He'll also be performing five or six new songs along the way.

Providing support for the entire tour will be My Brightest Diamond (a.k.a. singer/songwriter Shara Worden). MBD's debut album, Bring Me The Workhourse, will be released on August 22 via Asthmatic Kitty. [see full story for dates]- Click Here for the Full Story

Summer All Ours
Stella Brown reports: Dying to see Ours perform live? Brood not, as Ours keeps announcing shows, albeit scattered in date, venue, and timing. I caught the band in Boston back in April, when they opened for Dredg's post-Taste-of-Chaos tour. Ours played a seven-song set that was just a tease- but bursting with power, emotion, and kicked out by a tight new band line-up. Ours followed that successful pairing with their own headliner summer tour, giving fans longer sets that showcased several of the latest compositions from Jimmy Gnecco's substantial catalogue of unreleased songs.

Rumors abound about the release of the third album, over four years in the making. What tracks will be on it? When will it be in stores? What is it titled? But why hurry pushing out a product when Jimmy is so obviously enjoying the creative process? Jimmy has treated his fans to two new songs, "Get Up," and "Willing" and noted that the former will be on the anticipated third release. The latter should be given serious consideration for release as a single. [see full story for dates]- Click Here for the Full Story

Kaki King Felt Red
PR reports: Kaki King has never been one for convention. Her third album, ...Until We Felt Red, is certainly no exception. Over the last few years, she has enjoyed well-earned status as the zeit-girl of instrumental acoustic guitar; a gifted young ingénue closing rank on the canonized heroes of the genre. Now, with ...Until We Felt Red, she bests herself and defies expectation again-ditching her acoustic for an electric, lap steel and perhaps, the most unexpected instrument of all: her own voice.

Having recently been emancipated from a recording contract with Epic Records, King made ...Until We Felt Red on her own terms (and dime), dropping off a near-finished master on the desk of her surprised (and elated) management team/label, Velour. King's return to her original, indie-label home feels like a good thing for all. "Kaki is one of those artists where the best thing you can do, from an A&R perspective, is to just let her go off and make some brilliant art," says manager Jeff Krasno, adding, "not that she would let it happen any other way."[see full story for tour dates]- Click Here for the Full Story

Bananiversary
PR reports: Hard though it may be to believe, it's been 5 full years since rock & roll comic C.C. Banana was set loose upon an unsuspecting scene. On the fateful afternoon of July 6, 2001 an ordinary man gave way to become an extraordinary fruit. Donning a tattered old banana costume and inexplicably choosing to lampoon Poison guitarist C.C. DeVille, the newly christened C.C. Banana would soon make fast friends with the hard rock elite. This July, C.C. Banana commemorates 5 years of rock & roll irreverence with the appropriately named Bananiversary Celebration, a 5-star salute to the fabulous fruit. Throughout the month-long event, C.C. will issue a series of new interviews with some of his favorite hard rock heroes, the identities of whom are being withheld until publication. Additionally, the official C.C. Banana website has been updated with dozens of new and archived features, including interviews with the members of Cinderella, Ratt, Quiet Riot, FireHouse, Warrant, L.A. Guns, W.A.S.P. and Metal Church. To further commemorate this personal milestone, C.C. Banana has arranged a string of live, radio and podcast appearances, details of which can be found in his weblog. Additional information about C.C. Banana and the Bananiversary Celebration is available at CCBanana.com.- Click Here for the Full Story
