At The Throne Of Judgement Split
Lambgoat reports: Ohio metal band At The Throne Of Judgement has called it quits. Formed two years ago, the band released an album with Rise Records earlier this year. Here's a statement from the group:

"We have come to a point in our musical journey where we have been forced to make a decision. Several unforeseen events have unfolded that have brought us to our current situation. The five of us began touring as 3 students fresh out of high school and two students withdrawing from college. Each member graduating from high school had a significant scholarship to a college that they were turning down to tour.

"As you may or may not know, you don't make any money touring when you're a brand new thrash/death metal band in the scene. In fact, you lose money (not trying to discourage anyone). We never viewed making money as a priority, but there comes a time where you must realize that it is just not financially possible to continue. - more on this story

Cellador Drop Tour
BW&BK reports: Bill Hudson of Nebraska-based power metallers CELLADOR has issued the following update:

"Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, we have had pull off the TRAIL OF TEARS, ECHOES OF ETERNITY, and UNEXPECT tour.

We'd like to apologize to all of our fans who were looking forward to seeing us, all of the promoters (we've worked with some of them before and some are even friends. It's a real bummer), and our booking agent. They did a great job and it's unfortunate that we had to cancel our appearance. - more on this story

Billy Joel to Play Shea?
Contact Music reports: BILLY JOEL is in secret talks to play a landmark concert at New York's Shea Stadium, but it will be without longtime drummer LIBERTY DeVITO. The rocker and DeVito fell out on tour in 2005 and Joel tells Rolling Stone magazine the duo is still estranged.

He says, I haven't worked with him since the last tour we did, which started in 2005. Let's put it this way... he knows why and I know why, and I'm going to leave it at that.

Meanwhile, Joel can't believe news of his top secret Shea show has been leaked: We're talking with the New York Mets (baseball team) organization. Nothing has been locked in yet. I don't know how the word got out, but nothing has been really confirmed as far as I know. I would love to play there though. - more on this story

Reservoir Treats
PR reports: Garage-rock band The Treats, whose serendipitous first big break came in the form of having to watch Katherine Heigl repeatedly take off her clothes in the film "Side Effects", announces the release of their new CD Reservoir Tales.

The national launch of Reservoir Tales coincides with New Line Cinema's January '07 DVD release of the independent and controversial film "Side Effects" starring Katherine Heigl. The film, featuring music from The Treats (during a particularly saucy scene), is a satirical look at the pill pushing tactics of the pharmaceutical industry.

Although landing a spot on the "Side Effects" soundtrack may have been the bands big coup, their latest album Reservoir Tales is what has critics praising this eclectic group from Madison, WI. - more on this story

Slayer Prepping Next CD
PR reports: Right after the New Year, Slayer plans to start working on new material for their eleventh studio album, intended for a 2008 release, and will tour the world to support it. "I'm excited to see where the new music will go, how it's going to sound, what the total writing and recording experience will be like. I'm sure it will be like the one for 'Christ Illusion' - great!" says Slayer's Tom Araya.

In other news, With at least one foot planted firmly in Hell, N.A.R.A.S. members have nominated SLAYER, the acknowledged kings of extreme speed/thrash/punk-metal, for their third Grammy Award. The Slayer track, "The Final Six," from the band's 2007 Limited Edition "Christ Illusion," was nominated in the category of "Best Metal Performance."

"When I first got the word, I thought someone was playing a joke," mused Araya. "But obviously, we've made an impression on the industry. The people at the upper levels have taken notice of what we've done, and that's awesome." - more on this story

Van Halen Angers Fans With Anthony Snubs - A Top Story of 2007
antiMusic reports: For the rest of the year we are going to be looking back at the most read articles from the past year. Today we feature the biggest story from August that focused on fan anger of the apparent snubbing of Michael Anthony by the reunited Van Halen. Here is the story: Van Halen fans were ecstatic when the band announced that they will be returning to the stage this fall with their original frontman David Lee Roth. Some fans were disappointed that original bassist Michael Anthony will not be a part of the reunion with Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang taking his place. That disappointment turned into anger when Anthony's image was replaced with Wolfgang on album artwork posted on the band's website. Although, the original images were quickly reinstated, now fans are angry that Anthony is being written out of the band's songwriting history.

A fan wrote us on Saturday with the following: "On every single Van Halen song (with exception to the three new songs on the Best of Both Worlds compilation, ) credits have always gone to Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and the lead singer who is featured on the song (Roth/Hagar/Cherone). However, during the credits of the film 'Superbad', which features the song 'Panama', the song is only credited to the two Van Halens and Roth! Anthony continues to get snubbed by his former band as they attempt to erase him from the history of the band."

We looked a little further into this and discovered that Anthony has been removed from the credits for all of the songs from the band's Diamond Award winning album 1984 in the ASCAP database. The All Music Guide credits for the songs on the album include Anthony, Eddie, Alex, and Roth. However, Michael McDonald is missing from the credits for the track "I'll Wait". A check of other Van Halen releases still list Anthony as a co-writer. - more on this story

.... Review: She Wants Revenge - This Is Forever
Ironically, the title This Is Forever is like a put down. With so much sameness from song to song, these 13 dragging songs seem to go on for an eternity. But it just goes to show you that, even with all the right elements, it's still possible to fail. And this CD is a resounding dud. (2 stars) - Read the full She Wants Revenge - This Is Forever review

.... Review: Alberta Cross - The Thief & The Heartbreaker
Just when I thought the enjoyment of music like The Black Crowes was as historic as Chris Robinson's Hollywood marriage, Alberta Cross appears with a similar, but less histrionic, soul. (4 stars) - Read the full Alberta Cross - The Thief & The Heartbreaker review

.... Review: Trench Blank
Trench Blank is a band that is capable of affecting moods, whether it be to embrace you with a sensory blanket or to take you places of a most exotic composition. Either way, there are moments in most people's day that would benefit from a dosage of this excellent music. (4 stars) - Read the full Trench Blank review
