Tour NYC With the Kooks
PR reports: During their last US tour, Los Angeles residents were able to catch the Kooks busking in the streets for Sidewalk Sets. Now, New York fans of UK wunderkinds The Kooks will have the opportunity to win a seat on a very special rock and roll tour of New York, and be witness to some outdoor performances of their own.

One day ahead of the band's show at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park on September 10th, the Kooks are treating a handful of lucky contest winners to a guided tour of the city's most famous (or infamous) rock and roll sights, and will be taking their guitars along for the ride. It could possibly be the first acoustic show on the top of a double-decker bus New York City has ever seen. The tour will finish up at the Apple Store in Soho, where the band will be playing a free in-store show.

Courtesy of Astralwerks, 101.9 WRXP, VisitBritain, and Time Out New York, the grand prize winner will scoop two round trip flights to NYC, hotel accommodation for three nights, two seats on the double-decker tour bus with tour guide Matt Pinfield (101.9 WRXP morning show DJ), two spots at the in-store performance at the Apple Store in Soho, and two tickets to see The Kooks live at Central Park Summerstage on September 10th. The Presets Plot American Return
PR reports: This summer has seen The Presets play packed-to-the-rafters and raving arena-sized venues on a nightly basis. Internationally renowned festivals such as the UK's V Festival, Glastonbury, T in The Park, Norway's Ψya Festival, France's Pantiero Festival and a triumphant headline slot at Australia's Splendour in The Grass, have witnessed audiences blown away by the band's electric stage performance, as addictively compelling as it is intense.

Now, all hail, The Presets are returning to America! This fall Julian and Kim continue their sonic crusade on the American music loving masses. Hell-bent on converting the most stoic of rock music fans into pop-possessed dancing maniacs, the band will traipse around the country for 30-odd dates of non-stop party with co-headliners and Modular labelmates Cut Copy.

To celebrate their return to North America, The Presets release Talk Like That, the third single from Apocalypso. Flexing the melodic muscle of a hyperactive Pet Shop Boys, and injecting their own high-octane Presets rush, Talk Like That is a tense exercise in drama and lunacy, set atop a bed of haunting church organs and stuttering vocal samples. - more on this story

Gojira Preview
PR reports: Gojira is giving fans a taste of what's to come on their upcoming album, The Way of All Flesh, (Oct. 14 on Prosthetic Records), with the French quartet posting "Vacuity" on their MySpace page today

"We are super excited to put up this new song, "Vacuity," from The Way of All Flesh," the band says. "We're also proud to announce – in addition to the European dates with In Flames – Gojira will come back to America with them too. It's good to be back! Get ready..." The band has stayed busy as they prepare for the Logan Mader (Cavalera Conspiracy) produced follow up to "From Mars To Sirius" to be released, recently opening for Metallica in France.

Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier recently spoke with MTV's Chris Harris about the upcoming record. An excerpt from the conversation: "That's the theme — it's about death itself," explained. "It's also about the immortality of the soul. That's the main subject for us. Since we started to play and release albums, we've always talked about the same thing: the soul." - the song playeth here

FODfest 08
FOD reports: FODfest is the annual concert tour honoring the life and ideals of the late Wall Street Journal reporter DANIEL PEARL, who lost his life to terrorists in Pakistan in 2002 at the age of 38. Daniel Pearl made international headlines when he was kidnapped on January 23, 2002, only to be executed nine days later. A video tape of the beheading rocked the world and made Daniel Pearl a household name.

In addition to being an award-winning journalist, Daniel was also an extremely talented musician, a classically trained violinist who played a variety of instruments. Wherever he lived, Daniel was actively involved in the local music scene, and wherever he traveled, he sought out local musicians and "jam" sessions. Daniel believed in the power of music to bring people together regardless of their differences.

"FOD" is an acronym for "Friends of Danny" that began when friends of Daniel came together around his 1999 marriage to Mariane Van Nevenhoff, who would later be portrayed by Angelina Jolie in the movie "A Mighty Heart." - more on this story

Free Wisdom on iTunes
PR reports: iTunes has chosen "Wisdom" as the iTunes FREE Single of the week. The track is off Gran Ronde's new record called Secret Rooms also available on iTunes. Here is what the band had to say: We just got back from supporting The Enemy UK on their US dates. We have to say that the shows were really fun. And the guys in Enemy are really cool. At the last show in NYC we found out about iTunes, and that led to a fine party at the Bowery Ballroom with a lot of new friends.

It's actually amazing that we made it through the shows. We encountered many obstacles along the way. Namely our van, which half way to SF decided to start bucking like a bronco if we went over 45 mph. After a little inspection it was clear that the shocks just could not handle the weight of the gear and the shocks went out. We tried in vain, but no one had the parts needed anywhere along the 5, and we would miss our gig. Instead we just drove 45mph the whole way and nearly destroyed the beloved Silver Bullet van. We barley made the gig. The next day they had to cut off the shocks because they were so badly smashed into the undercarriage.

The van is fixed and hopefully we'll be out on the road again soon, playing the songs we love to sing and meeting new people. Now go get that FREE song on iTunes, tell all your friends to go get it, and if you have a chance write us a little review telling us what you think about it. Or better yet about the last book you read. I'm always looking for a good read. - grab it here

. Opeth - Watershed
Watershed as an album sees Opeth add yet another elegant gem to the crown only they wear. This record sees the band taking their own trademarks further down into weird horror and nihilistic sadness. Majestic, lonely, grandiose, and stupendous all at once. - Read the full Opeth - Watershed review

. Negativland - Thigmotactic
This stuff is just fart noises and elevator music with "There's A Wocket in my Pocket" read over the top. Negativland have had a few decent moments in the past, but unfortunately this is not one of them. (2.5 stars) - Read the full Negativland - Thigmotactic review
