ZZ Top Still Riding The Charts
Kayos reports: This week, Eagle Rock Entertainment is celebrating the 52-week ride on the Soundscan Music DVD Charts of ZZ Top's Live From Texas.

Originally released on June 24, 2008, Live From Texas is the first ever-live concert on DVD and Blu-ray from ZZ Top. A compendium of the entire ZZ career, Live From Texas features 17 of the bands most beloved tracks, including "Tush" "Legs" and "Sharp Dressed Man." This DVD not only features 2 hours of the Southern-fried sizzle ZZ Top is world-famous for, but bonus footage of the band discussing their evolution over a poker game.

Singer/guitarist/frontman Billy F Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill, and drummer Frank Beard are one of the most instantly recognizable bands in rock history. From their 1969 Houston inception to their 2004 induction in the Rock 'n'Roll Hall of Fame, ZZ Top have crafted a brand of no frills blues 'n' boogie that has stayed fresh through four decades. Known for self-designed custom guitars, love of rural and urban American blues music and early rock 'n' roll, they have evolved beyond just having great tunes the persona of ZZ Top is that of pop culture iconography. They have built a reputation as one of the greatest American live rock bands of all time, and have garnered success from their first million seller Tres Hombres (1973) to their 10x platinum Eliminator in 1983. The chart success of Live From Texas is just the latest accolade for this legendary band.

Metric Are Sellouts
Big Hassle reports: Metric's first US tour in support of Fantasies was a resounding success, with sellout crowds in every city wanting the band back as soon as possible. With close to 3,000 people turning up at NY's Terminal 5, well over 2,000 coming to LA's Wiltern and scads of fans unable to get in to shows across the country, the Metric bandwagon keeps on getting bigger.

Released on April 14th via the band's own Metric Music International (aka MMI or Me Myself and I), Fantasies is the best-selling Metric album ever in the U.S. It debuted #1 on Billboard's Heatseaker Chart and skyrocketed into the Billboard's Top 100 albums chart the following week.

The band stopped in to play live sets at both KROQ and KCRW (for the show Morning Becomes Eclectic) among others and appeared on the June 18th episode of the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. - more on this story

Q-Tip's Chinese Democracy Finally Gets Release Date
PR reports: In these hard times, we can all stand a ray of hope. Hope in hip-hop now comes from the legendary Q-Tip, he of A Tribe Called Quest fame. His long-delayed album Kamaal the Abstract, slated originally for release in 2001, is finally dropping September 15th on Battery Records.

A musical hybrid, Kamaal was commendably avant-garde at the time of its creation. Amazingly, it's even more apropos in 2009; given the dearth of musical merit and capable MCs in today's hip-hop, the time is ever-so-right for Tip.

Kamaal the Abstract is an intensely idiosyncratic and revealing record. To that end, Q-Tip produced the entire album himself, even playing several instruments. What comes from Kamaal is a daring mlange of soul, supa-cool jazz, headnodding hip-hop, and organic pop magic in the vein of Stevie Wonder or Prince. Check for the superlative figures of saxophonist Kenny Garrett, a one-time member of Miles Davis' ensemble, on the breathy "Abstractionisms." Or the fluid flute lines of Gary Thomas, another Davis sideman, on "Do U Dig U." Elsewhere, note Tip's ambitious production, arrangements, and even sung stylings.

The 69 Eyes Declare Their New Album the New Appetite For Destruction
PR reports: The 69 Eyes return with their ninth studio album, "Back in Blood" (Out Sept 15th) which has been hailed [in this press release at least] a latter-day 'Appetite For Destruction'.

With blood on their hands and AC/DC on their stereo, the bloodsuckers have combined their past to focus on the future. Turning their back on the comic book glam of 'Angels', The Eyes have opened a heavier chapter in their musical career. For the first time this decade, honorary sixth vampire Johnny Lee Michaels has been granted temporary leave from the batcave and Matt Hyde (Slayer/Monster Magnet) has been invited over the threshold to produce the record.

"He's cleaned the table and dusted the skeletons!" singer Jyrki 69 laughs. "It's like when Rick Rubin helped The Cult discover them on 'Electric' - we made a similar spiritual journey with Matt."

Ronnie Milsap Does Some Soul Searching
PR reports: For the first time in his illustrious career, country legend Ronnie Milsap tells his inspirational story through the two CD set 'Then Sings My Soul: 24 Favorite Hymns Gospel Songs'. This stunning collection includes gospel greats including "I'll Fly Away", "Amazing Grace", "Up To Zion" and secular treasures like "Stand By Me", and "People Get Ready." 'Then Sings My Soul' marks the first time Milsap delves into the spiritual music that has surrounded his personal life.

"This recording of inspirational songs is going to set a brand new mark for me, especially. My fans, they have indicated they've wanted this for so long," Milsap explains, "And I was shy to do this for a long time because I didn't necessarily want to show the inside of my soul. It was easy to hide behind 'Daydreams About Night Things' or 'There's No Getting Over Me' or 'Stranger In My House.' It was easier to hide behind those big hits. Nobody ever asked me to dig deep inside of your spirit and expose that. That's why it took me a while to be able to do that."

Born in the Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina, Milsap lived in extreme poverty. His family brought him to church revival after church revival in the hopes that a divine intervention would cure their child of his blindness. A young Milsap left those revivals defeated, as his family presumed his own lack of faith prevented the miracle cure from happening. Throughout this, Milsap's faith was unwavering. At the age of six he moved to Raleigh to attend a state school for the blind and it was there he discovered his musical talents, which he then applied in church. Ironically it was an encounter with Ray Charles, another vision impaired musician who often performed gospel music, which inspired Milsap to focus on music as a career. - more on this story

Ride for A Cure 09 A Success
Webster and Assoc reports: Capitol Nashville Recording Artist Little Big Town hosted their third "Ride For A Cure" on Sunday, June 14, 2009 to benefit the T.J. Martell Foundation. This years event was a huge success and raised $52,000 for cancer research at the Frances Williams Preston Laboratories at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. The T.J. Martell Foundation supports leukemia, cancer and AIDS research at six top hospitals in the United States. The Frances Williams Preston Laboratories were named after Frances Preston, past President and CEO of BMI and current President of the national T.J. Martell Foundation.

"We have seen this event double in size every year and we are so grateful for all the artists and fans support. We want to see a cure and we believe TJ Martell has the means and the resources to make that happen in our lifetime. I had the chance to talk to a guy who was riding his brother's bike on Sunday. His brother had passed from cancer two years prior and he was there to ride in his honor. That's the kind of story that fuels this event," states Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town.

Presented by Roberts and Lyons, the event featured a motorcycle ride from the Harley-Davidson of Cool Springs to the Harley-Davidson of Columbia, a barbecue lunch provided by Applebee's and a post ride performance by Little Big Town and friends. - more on this story
