Wolfmother Frontman Arrested
(Rock News Desk) Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale spent a night in jail at the weekend after drunkenly forcing his way onto a pub stage then brawling with bouncers.

Stockdale, 35, was drinking with friends at the Archive Bar near his home in Brisbane, Australia on Sunday, while a local band were performing a set. He interrupted them and demanded to be allowed to play a song, then sang a cover of the Beatles' Let It Be with the addition of strong language.

He had to be forcibly removed from the stage, and was told he wouldn't be served any more drinks. When security staff asked him to leave he sat on the floor and refused to move, at which point the police were called. more on this story

Too Drunk To F*** Controversy Gets Bigger
We were sent word by CWPR that the Dead Kennedys emphatically deny that they ever gave Heineken permission to use their song 'Too Drunk To F**k' in a controversial ad campaign.

The band's attorneys have contacted Heineken to address the un-authorized use. Dead Kennedys have never authorized any company to use this song or any of the band's songs to promote a consumer product (let alone the consumption of alcohol) in this or any advertisement.

Heineken was recently forced to remove the advert which features a cover of the Dead Kennedys' 'Too Drunk To F**k' because of complaints it would encourage binge drinking. Heineken had used the song in a commercial tie-in to promote its beer in banner advertisements broadcast via the music website Spotify. more on this story

Alice Cooper Heist
(hennemusic) Someone's playing a prank on rock's ultimate prankster. A billboard promoting Alice Cooper's September 26 gig at Sydney's Enmore Theatre has gone missing.

Music Feeds reports a representative from Century Venues alerted concert promoter Chugg Entertainment of the missing artwork, saying that "the 3 x 4 metre billboard had been untied from the framework and stolen, with no traces of how. Scaling the awning and ascending somehow to the billboard framework, several metres above the awning, the stealth mission was no mean feat. It is also clear that this was no blow away Alice; as the billboard on the other side of the framework remained completely intact."

Chugg are offering a reward to anyone who can offer any information of the billboard's whereabouts: 2 tickets to the Enmore Theatre show in September. more on this story

Mastodon To Inspire Delinquency and Public Nudity?
(Gibson) Mastodon think their new album, The Hunter, is going to inspire some delinquency in the band's listeners. "Kids are going to get in trouble to this album," guitarist-vocalist Brent Hinds told Rolling Stone. "They're going to break speakers, pop springs on their beds and get drunk and nude in public."

Those are high expectations for The Hunter, which is due later this year and was produced by Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Gwen Stefani). The band said they plan to include about 14 songs on the finished release, which finds the Atlanta group in a lighter mood than 2009's Crack the Skye (which revolved around the brain hemorrhage of one member and the suicide of another's sister).

This album includes the song "Stargasm," which has some interesting subject matter. "It's about [expletive] in space," said drummer Brann Dailor, who initially came up with a space concept for the whole album. "Brent was like, '[Expletive] all that! Let's just have fun." more on this story

Rush and Pink Floyd Voted Top Prog Groups
(RockAAA) Rolling Stone Magazine has revealed the results of a reader poll to find the top 10 Prog Rock bands of all time with Rush beating Pink Floyd for top honors.

As a genre Prog Rock is enjoying a renaissance. The music of choice of a generation of old fogies would appear to have been adopted by a new generation of young fogies as the top 10 list clearly shows

Perhaps there are a few surprises in the top 10, and as lists always do, this one will set off arguments between bearded men in chunky-knit sweaters as they ponder the hidden meaning of the conceptual astrological time lines involved in casting the final runes, as they sip pints of Old Badger under the thatch of ye olde pubs of England's green and pleasant land. Rob Zombie Changes His Tune About The Rock Hall
(Gibson) Rob Zombie has admitted that despite some reservations about how halls of fame operate, he was honored to induct his hero Alice Cooper into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year and enjoyed the whole experience.

Zombie told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "I used to feel sort of anti-Rock and Roll of Hall Fame, because, you know, as Steve Earle was saying, why do they let this person in and not that person? But when I was actually there, I got a different perspective on it, because, unlike certain other award-type shows, it was a really cool vibe there, and it was very much musicians paying tribute to other musicians. It didn't have a cheesy corporate vibe to it.

"The whole evening was fantastic. It was a big honor to induct Alice. I've known Alice for 17 years or something, we're good friends, so I was honored to be asked." more on this story

Cinderella Still Having A Ball Despite Hair Metal Stigma
(RockAAA) Cinderella guitarist Jeff LaBar admits the 'hair metal' tag which his band has been tagged with is irritating especially considering they based their sound on the rock scene of the 1970s.

The Philadelphia rockers are famous for their bluesy hooks and singalong choruses and this year marks a whopping 25-years since their debut record 'Night Songs' was released and the band are still on the road with the original line-up a rarity in rock n roll. In an interview with the Bellingham Herald LaBar explained: "The funny thing is that at the time, what we did was actually called rock 'n' roll. All of these terms you hear about came later. 'Hair metal' and 'glam' we didn't get called any of that at the time. We were a rock band.

"I guess we could have been labeled heavy metal. But then Metallica and Anthrax came out, and it was like, 'Now, that's heavy metal.' We were a hard-rock band. So, no, I don't care for the 'hair metal' label. I don't care for any of the labels that came out later. But I accept them." more on this story

Elvis collector and expert Bills Ellis, 67, from Rhyl, North Wales, paid about $4 for the film in 1961. The Day Prince Flew To The Top With Batman
(Gibson) On this day in 1989, The soundtrack album Batman, by Prince, started a six-week run at no 1 on the U.S. album chart. Gibson takes a look back: It was one of the strangest pairings in pop music history. On one side there was Prince, an '80s megastar of the highest elite, who seemed to create music faster than he could release it. On the other was Tim Burton, the new "it" film director (thanks to Beetlejuice), who had been given the keys to Gotham City to introduce movie audiences to a darker version of Batman.

During the editing process for Batman, Burton had used Prince's "1999" and "Baby I'm a Star" as the temporary soundtrack for a couple of scenes. Seeing as Warner Bros. was releasing Batman and that Prince was signed to Warner Bros. Records, Burton approached him about creating original material for the film. Prince agreed to watch a rough cut of the film, and found himself inspired by elements of Burton's Batman. He felt his music could be a natural fit for the movie.

Prince cancelled his vacation to Paris and put other projects (including his own Graffiti Bridge movie) on hold to write and record his Batman songs in early 1989. A month after seeing the rough version of the film, Prince presented Burton with eight finished songs all synchronized to film footage. Some he had just written and recorded, while others had been finished previously. For instance, "Vicki Waiting" was originally called "Anna Waiting" and dated from late '88, as did the rock song "Electric Chair." Burton approved of five of the songs, rejected three and asked if Prince could come up with two more. Interesting enough, those two songs (the funky pop-rockers "Trust" and "Partyman"), would end up being the only two featured in the finished film. more on this story

Singled Out: Candlelight Red's Closer
Today we celebrate Candlelight Red hitting the road with Saving Abel for a summer tour by revisiting our feature with guitarist Jeremy Edge who tells us about their hit single "Closer". Here is the story:

When we wrote the song "Closer" it started out as a simple music idea that we recorded and gave to our singer Ryan. Ryan came back a few weeks later with a finished version that gave us chills! Once we started circulated the single we had gotten an interesting letter. The letter from a fan was an interesting story of how the song reminded her of a relative who committed suicide.

The lyrics "It's nothing , get it out of your mind. I tell myself, time after time" and the lyrics "Come closer and watch me bleed. Come closer and see what you've done to me" reminded her of the circumstances surrounding the incident. Apparently a husband had suspected his spouse of cheating but chalked it up to paranoia. Later he found his suspicions were true and committed suicide. As dark as that story was, it inspired us when we went to make a music video. We altered the story and depicted a gilted girlfriend come in and catch Ryan's character with his new girlfriend and shoots and kills them both. Lying brain dead, his character is seen in front of a mirror, his reflection sings the lyrics in retrospect.

The dark tone in the video sparked local controversy, which later escalated because we borrowed a local ambulance and police car off duty, for a total of 10 mins. Some claimed the video was "wasted taxpayer dollars", while other locals of the small town we shot it in, rallied behind the band. Strangers would come up to the band and say things like "Hey, we liked your video, I don't care what any of the old timers think!" So it was interesting to see a song that didn't necessarily have a dramatic story behind it, suddenly develop one after its release!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the video and grab the tour dates right here!
