On this day in 2002, The Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone (Douglas Glenn Colvin) died at his Hollywood, CA apartment from a heroin overdose. He was 49. Colvin was the group's primary songwriter, penning such classic Ramones songs as "Rockaway Beach," "'53rd & 3rd'" and "Poison Heart."

The Beatles regrouped from that tragedy and on this day in 1962 went into London's Abbey Road Studios to record for the first time under Martin's direction. They recorded four songs, including "Love Me Do," which would eventually � though not from this particular recording � become The Beatles' first hit, climbing to #17 in the U.K. and #1 in the States (it was re-released in the U.K. 1982, peaking at #4.) McCartney wrote most of "Love Me Do," with Lennon contributing a bit in the middle.

After scheduled performances in Switzerland, France, Belgium and Luxemburg, Carlton will return to the U.S. with a performance with the Nashville Symphony on September 30.

The tour will start July 6th, the day after their debut LP, 'I Wish I Could Stay Here' is released on Run For Cover Records.

They are touring in support of their debut single, "Closer," which impacted radio last week with WZBH in Ocean City, KHTQ in Spokane, KFRQ in McAllen and WAQX in Syracuse, WKLC in Huntington WV and KBRE in Merced, CA all adding the song out of the box.

This song was written quite early during the formation of the story for the album. It details the battle between the rebels, led by our protagonist, and the Dark Army, led by the General. The album is a concept piece, describing the tale of a man that salvages a sword from a long-abandoned Earth. However, the sword is incredibly powerful, and slowly corrupts his soul to evil.

This song marks the point where our mercenary completely loses himself to the sword and destroys everyone, including his own friends and lover. I tried my best to describe the scene with both concrete and abstract terminology... I wanted the listener to imagine being the rebels, entirely terrified, expecting only death, watching the Dark Army assemble in the valley below.

The part at the end is my favorite... The boys did an amazing job of writing instrumentals that encompassed the agonizing, yet triumphant emotion our mercenary experiences after slaying two armies almost single-handedly. I really enjoy singing that part, and I hope our fans are just as affected by it as I am :)
