Slash For Breaking Bad Sequel?

(Classic Rock) A self-confessed "maniac" wants Slash to star in his Breaking Bad sequel - and hopes to raise $500,000 in the next fortnight to fund it. Larry Shephed admits he's a complete novice, but says he's become angry at the quality of writing on his favourite TV shows. His solution is to create Anastasia, a series he hopes will feature Slash and Val Kilmer as US Marshals on the hunt for leading character Walter White and others.

So far he's managed to raise $1064 for his idea - and upset potential star Kilmer in the process. Shepherd says: "Anastasia picks up where Breaking Bad left off. Walter White's laying there on the floor and there's a police officer to the left of his feet. He thinks Walter White's dead - everybody does.

"Four seconds later a figure comes in. We don't know the gender, we don't know who it is - we just see them bend down, pick up Walter by the ankles and drag him out. That's where we start."

"The arcs are, is Walter alive? Where is he? And who drugged him out?"

See how Slash and Kilmer fit in here.

Eric Clapton Ready For Retirement

(Classic Rock) Eric Clapton is considering retirement after making one more album, he's revealed. Slowhand has been speaking about ending his career for some time now, and recently announced to fans in Japan they'd seen him for the last time.

Now he tells Rolling Stone: "I think this could be it. I don't want to work that hard any more. I was planning to write and record another record, so that's the next thing I would do.

"Next year I might do a couple of shows and say, 'Folks, that's it - I'm off.' Then I'll see what I make of that, whether I'm content to just go into the studio now and then and play at home for the family." more on this story

All Ramones Go to Heaven in Funny or Die Video

(Radio.com) Too soon? No way, not when you are talking about The Ramones. It is hard to imagine the punk legends wanting any kind of sacred respect surrounding their passing, which just came to completion with the death of Tommy Ramone, the last surviving member. Leave it to Funny or Die to push on to find the chuckles in loss.

Traci Lords and Kids in the Hall's Dave Foley play disciplinarians in heaven, letting the Ramones know that their earth antics need reform, asking the four punks to mend some of their rowdy ways in heaven.

It is a lighthearted bit, but not one without heart, finishing with a moment of reflection that points toward a personal connection that the video's creators had with the band.

Still, the idea of all Ramones going to heaven is something easy to get behind. Check out the clip here.

Billy Corgan Slams Amazon For Leak

(Classic Rock) Billy Corgan has hit out at online retailer Amazon after it seemingly broke an agreement over when details of the band's upcoming Adore reissue would be revealed.

The Pumpkins frontman claims Amazon agreed to allow the band to reveal the 107 tracks that would make up the deluxe edition of the 1998 album, to be released on Monday, September 22.

But, he says, Amazon jumped the gun and published the tracklist on its US site before he had the chance to do so via the band's official website. On Facebook, Corgan says: "Amazon decided to break an agreement and post tracklist of Adore first - despite assurances otherwise that asked us to wait.

"Obviously I've had Adore tracklist for four months, and could have posted anytime. But we try to co-ordinate these releases to balance all. So all I can say is that A: never again will I trust such promises and that B: from now on I'll just do right by SP peeps first and foremost." more on this story

Rush Members May Have Art Park Named After Them

(hennemusic) The north Toronto neighborhood of Willowdale is considering naming a new Art Park after Rush members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson. Inside Toronto reports the proposal for the name Lee Lifeson Art Park is scheduled to come before North York community council on August 12.

"Two years ago, I came up with the idea to create a park that would focus on the arts and would be a celebration of creativity, where people could go to be creative or go to enjoy others' creativity," explained Willowdale Councillor John Filion.

"All the arts will be represented there but the focus will be on music and sound. This is really a new concept, there isn't a prototype anywhere. It's nothing we're copying from anywhere else." more on this story

Indie Labels Unite To Give Artists Better Deals

(Classic Rock) More than 700 independent labels have given their backing to an initiative calling for fairer deals for their artists. Among the labels to sign the Fair Digital Deals Declaration are Epitaph, Beggars Group, Rough Trade and Sub Pop, who want to fix inequities in music licensing deals that include payouts covering unshared compensation and minimum revenue guarantees.

According to the Worldwide Independent Network, the labels have decided to unite over financial issues because "a pattern has emerged" in which online music services favour major companies over independents.

Launching the initiative, Martin Mills, group chairman of the Beggars Group, who look after bands including Queens of the Stone Age, says: "Why wouldn't we treat artists fairly? It seems so obvious that we shouldn't have to say it, but let's say it loud and proud." more on this story

David Ellefson Talks KISS and Megadeth Lineup Changes

(Classic Rock) Megadeth's David Ellefson has spoken about the ever-changing face of bands including his own and KISS, saying fans identify with individuals in groups - not just the songs.

Speaking with the Niagara Gazette, Ellefson also offered his take on the recent Kiss Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame controversy involving the group's original lineup, stating: "I'm a Kiss fan - they were the first band I was a full-blown fan of.

"They lent themselves to that kind of adoration and I learned a lot from being a fan and it gives me a better understanding of why fans get upset about things like lineup changes.

"A band is about a lot more than just the songs, it's about an identity. Fans identify with lineups and individuals and they don't like change. But bands like Kiss and Megadeth change - and we have both managed to keep our core sound strong." more on this story

Alice Cooper Helped Kill The Hippie Movement

(Classic Rock) Alice Cooper says his band put an end to the hippy movement and gave rock music the kick up the arse it desperately needed. The shock rocker recalls the reaction to the band in the 1970s and says that, for the first time in years, music was fun again.

He also discusses the 70s attitude to drugs and compares it to today's more educated views on substance abuse. He tells In The Studio: "We were such a shock to the system. I always say that we were the band that drove the stake through the hear of the love generation. Everybody was so tired of peace and love and that whole San Francisco thing that all of a sudden here was this breath of fresh air.

"Everything that the hippies didn't believe in. Alice Cooper was celebrating sexuality and androgyny and horror and all of this put together. It was fun. For the first time in a long time music was not political, it was fun. But the music has to stand up years from now, even after they forgot what we did on stage. more on this story

Whitesnake Build Their Own Studio

(hennemusic) Whitesnake leader David Coverdale is sharing video of his new studio, Hook City, in Reno, Nevada. The singer refers to the project as "a labor of love and a work of art."

Whitesnake were in the news last month when Coverdale updated fans on the status of the band's search for a new guitarist, following the departure of longtime axeman Doug Aldrich in May.

"I see there's all kinds of interesting posts and some 'demands' about whom I should work with," posted Coverdale on the group's website. "As always, I sincerely thank you all for your generosity, but, with all due respect, I'll be making the decision who the band and I are going to work with."

"It's a very simple process," he continued. "I guarantee it will be a very gifted guitarist who plays great and sings great, works well in a team, someone who appreciates Whitesnake music and a player whom we feel will help us take Whitesnake to the next level in as many ways as possible... without unnecessary distractions. I hope you can appreciate this fact."

"We've had an amazing array of exceptionally gifted musicians who have applied for the gig," added the singer. "Once again, we are in such awe that so many talented people want to play Whitesnake music with us. We're very close to making our decision and we'll let you all know when the time is right and hopefully, whomever it is, you will give them the same chance, the same support as you've given our new musicians before."

He also detours from the stage and recording studio long enough to look into the incredible success that was the reality TV series "The Osbournes".

Rob Reed Reveals New Video

(Prog) Rob Reed fights for attention from a Rick Wakeman lookalike record label executive in the latest promotion video that he has released for solo album Sanctuary.

The new promo clip features an excerpt from Sanctuary Part 2, which appears on the record Reed devised as his personal tribute to Tubular Bells. Sanctuary was co-produced by Tom Newman and mastered by Simon Heyworth - both worked on Mike Oldfield's 1973 masterpiece.

The Magenta and Kompendium maestro recently said: "I wanted to play all the instruments, and for them all to be real - no synthesisers. The next four weeks were a bit of a blur as the music just came out. It turned out to be the most enjoyable album I've made."

Adam Lambert Discovered Queen Via Wayne's World

(Classic Rock) Adam Lambert first discovered Queen during the famous Wayne's World Bohemian Rhapsody scene. The singing sensation was 10-years-old when he saw Mike Myers and Dana Carvey belting out the track in animated fashion in the smash hit 1992 film.

The hilarious scene won the approval of original Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May said last month. Nobody could have guessed the man who would full in for Mercury years later was discovering the band from that movie scene.

He recalls telling his dad he thought the song was "cool" and he was soon introduced to the band's back catalogue. Lambert is currently performing with Queen heroes Brian May and Roger Taylor as Queen And Adam Lambert on a mammoth North American tour. more on this story

The Reasoning Push Back Album Release

(TeamRock Radio) The Reasoning have postponed the release of their fifth album until next year, so they can take advantage of production and engineering opportunities that have come their way.

But the band's autumn tour will still take place as planned - and it'll feature full performances of 2006 debut album Awakening. The schedule changes mean the launch of their latest work ties in with their 10th anniversary. Bassist Matt Cohen says: "After the whirlwind experiences of the past couple of years, we're going to take some extra time to really develop and embellish this new piece of work, and craft it to its very richest potential.

"This is going to be a big financial investment for us - outsourcing the recording of drums and, for the first time, vocals, to some big studios. We're also in talks with several mix engineers, both here and on the other side of the Atlantic." more on this story

Solemn Sun Release Debut Single

(Classic Rock) Solemn Sun say their rebranding was an effort to distance themselves from the folk-punk scene they had been lumped into. Previously known as Jim Lockey And The Solemn Sun, the English band are now known simply as Solemn Sun and have released a 'debut' single.

Frontman Lockey says: "We'd reached the juncture where most would wander the beaten path and churn out a carbon copy of the last effort. Having little time for bands that stagnate and even less for being consumed by the scene we found ourselves in, we decided we would take our band back from what it became.

"We would re-establish ourselves as people, reinvent the band we are and restart our journey again on our own terms." The video for Josef can be seen here.

Dillinger Escape Plan Guitarist Launching Online Portal

(TeamRock Radio) Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman has launched Party Smasher Inc, a website for musicians, photographers, illustrators and designers to share ideas and encourage innovation.

Speaking about the new online portal, Weinman says: "I was well into my 20s with a college degree and a corporate job, playing with music with no intention of generating money or some massive fan base. Before I even realised it, I was making 100% of my living creating art. How did this happen? Because we ignored the rules.

"It wasn't until I started living my artistic life with that mindset that I became a responsible creator - one who could move people through honest expression. That is what Party Smasher Inc is all about. We are here to celebrate the artists that are following their own path, undeterred by the trends." more on this story

Singled Out: The Young Wild's Moment Goes

Today Bryan Bangarter of The Young Wild tells us about their new single "Moment Goes" which comes from the upcoming EP 'For Now Not Forever.' Here is the story:

"Moment Goes is a special tune for THE YOUNG WILD. It's not only the first single from our upcoming record but also represents a shift that our band tried to make with our sound. I spent a lot of time sitting at my piano trying to write a traveling song. Anytime I'm on the road I feel a bit like a drifter, in the sense that I never establish any roots with the place I'm passing through. I have no history there, just a moment and then I'm off. So maybe this song carries that theme of drifting as well as change and even lost love, then in the chorus its all about the release of all the things we hold on to.

In early 2013 we were going through some lineup changes and I had been re-tooling Moment Goes for several months before bringing it to the band. I found some old synthesizers and sample pads that I wanted to incorporate into our sound. 'Moment Goes' was the first to get this treatment, taking a standard verse/chorus/verse/chorus pop style tune and trying filter it through an era of tools and equipment that was older than me. For whatever reason it went over well with the group and I embraced this approach for everything that would go on the record. I see why musicians have an appreciation for vintage instruments or things that are sometimes thought to be discarded. There's a wealth of great sounds in these old instruments and you can hear several of them in the music from The Young Wild."

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the lyric video here and learn more about the band right here!
