The
Pixies Reunion Dates!
08-17-04
.
(press release) Without a doubt the hottest
reunion in ages, PIXIES - Frank Black (vocals, guitar), Kim Deal (bass,
vocals,) Joey Santiago (guitar), David Lovering (drums) - will kick
off their first North American concert tour in more than a decade on September
4 at the Les Schwab Amphitheatre in Bend, OR (confirmed dates below).
This tour follows the band's sold-out April "warm up" dates which culminated
with the band's co-headlining position at Southern California's Coachella
Valley Festival on May 1.
For this Fall tour, Pixies have already
shattered past sales records in numerous venues - all 18,000 tickets were
sold in minutes last week for the band's unprecedented six-consecutive-night
December run at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom; Pixies also sold-out
all 18,000 tickets for a record-setting four-night November run at Chicago's
Aragon Ballroom. Sell-outs have also occurred for shows in Atlanta,
Philadelphia, Toronto, Orlando, Vancouver, San Francisco, Kansas City,
and Orlando.
As on the April "warm up" dates, Pixies
will work with DiscLive, Inc. to record most of the Fall concerts**, making
"Pixies Live," a special limited edition double-CD of a particular show
available for sale immediately after that concert. The first show
to be available will be the September 18 performance at the Austin City
Limits Festival in Austin, TX. The Pixies traveling caravan will
include a DiscLive truck that will have the capacity to record and manufacture
the CDs on the spot. Depending on the show, 1-2,000 CDs will be made,
and when the CDs are gone, theyre gone no more will be produced.
The collectible discs will retail for $25.00 and can be pre-purchased at
the DiscLive site (http://www.disclive.com/) or at point of sale stations
to be set up at the participating venues.
In addition, DiscLive will implement a
NetBurn Pass program allowing fans to make CDs at home from any Pixies
concerts on the Fall tour that DiscLive has previously recorded. The NetBurn
pass will be offered to fans for $18 for a single concert, $59 for five
concerts, and $99 for ten concerts of the fan's choosing.
DiscLive sold out all 16,000 CDs
produced on the Pixies' April dates, as well as a limited edition of 6,000
CDs from four sold-out shows at London's Brixton Academy in June.

Since it kicked off last April, the Pixies'
reunion has experienced overwhelming worldwide success. Virtually
every Pixies show on the April "warm up" dates sold out within minutes,
and tickets were available only on eBay for hundreds of dollars each.
In May, the Pixies co-headlined the first day at the Coachella Valley Festival,
and created pure magic in the hot desert for 50,000 fans ("The day belonged
to the Pixies," so said the New York Times). June saw the band headline
four sold-out dates in London, playing to a total of 19,000 fans.
According to The Times in London, the Pixies were "musically spellbinding...[playing]
a set of superlative rock songs with unwavering conviction, and they did
it brilliantly." Earlier this month, Pixies sold out yet another London
concert scheduled for August 20 at the Forum in under ten minutes.
Since late May, the Pixies have toured
throughout Europe, playing major festivals and sold-out headline shows
of their own, and on July 30, made their first-ever performance at the
Fuji Rock Festival in Japan.
On June 15, the band's first new song in
more than a dozen years - "Bam Thwok" - was released as an exclusive download
via iTunes, becoming the #1 seller on the site's USA, UK, and French charts.
The song can be downloaded for $.99 at http://www.apple.com/itunes/.
