Will Kings of Leon Top Metallica?

09/26/2008
.
(PR) RCA Records is incredibly excited to announce that Kings of Leon's new record, Only By The Night, has sold an astonishing number of units already in the United Kingdom after just 2 days at retail, thus putting it on target to debut at #1 next week.

The first single from the new album, "Sex on Fire," has sold well over 100k units since its release on September 8th, making it the #1 single for two weeks straight, with a third week on top looking likely. All three of the band's previous records have now re-entered the top 50.

All of this occurred while the band was in America, taking New York City by storm. Two powerful, high-profile television appearances on Saturday Night Live and the Late Show with David Letterman as well as a sold-out, rare underplay for the lucky few at Webster Hall and the release of the Spin cover on top of all the incredible news coming from overseas helped fuel a celebratory six days during which the band seems to have entered a new phase of their career in this country.

"Sex on Fire," already a #20 modern rock record and climbing rapidly, is the band's highest charting radio single in the US so far. Also, within a day of release, Only By The Night is #1 at iTunes and the label is expecting a top-10 debut on the Billboard top 200.
