Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong Makes Broadway Debut

. (Gibson) Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong made his Broadway acting debut Tuesday night, portraying the character of St. Jimmy in the production American Idiot, a musical based on Green Day's 2004 album of the same name.

Armstrong is filling in for the role's primary actor, who was forced to take a brief leave of absence for personal reasons, according to RollingStone.com.

The production, which has been struggling during its Broadway run, played to the first of what most expect to be consecutive packed houses thanks to Armstrong's presence in the cast. Making his appearance 30 minutes into the show, he sang, danced and stayed in character throughout his time onstage. - more on this story
