According to bassist Nick Harmer, the title references a 'Japanese style of art where they take fractured, broken ceramics and put them back together with very obvious, real gold."�

Codes and Keys, the band's last studio album, was a modest success, charting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and scoring an alt-rock No. 1 with "You Are a Tourist."
