Adakain - Never Coming Home

You won't find what they're doing being talked about on the nightly weather forecast but the Dallas-based hard rock band Adakain is roaring out of their homeland like a Texas tornado: Loud, forceful and definitely full of attitude. And while this storm will be harmless to fans, Never Coming Home is sure to cut a wide swath through radio-land as it touches down with cuts like the grinding "All Goes to Hell," the ominous sounding (and actual storm referencing) title track and the discourse on playing rough in the sack that is "Hate Sex." What every song has going for it is that the heavy sounds are all balanced out with segments of straight vocals (singer Ryan Ray also issues his share of guttural screams) that play out in hooky choruses, making cuts like "We Crawl" perfect not only for head banging but also for chiming in with Ray. The band really shines on first single "Hey Girl," a lyrically amusing and musically very catchy tale of a spoiled scenester who thinks the world revolves around her, oblivious to the fact that everyone sees her quite clearly for the phony that she is. Some of the polish of Never Coming Home comes via the production skills of Sahaj Ticotin of Ra, who also co-wrote throughout, but Adakain proves to have serious chops that are going to shine through no matter who's behind the board.
