Sir Ivan - I Am Peaceman

.
Sir Ivan is Ivan Wilzig, a former banker who dropped out of the corporate world to pursue a career in music, party like crazy, spread peace and love, and raise money for a host of worthy charities. Wilzig spent 20-years in banking, working in an empire that his now deceased father built, and he makes no bones about the fact that this former life gave him the money to begin doing what he's doing today, which is basically have non-stop fun. Under his stage name Sir Ivan, Wilzig records EDM versions of oldies like "Happy Together," "Imagine" and "Eve of Destruction" and that aspect of his career has won him a fanatical following in Europe as well as the occasional appearance on the Billboard charts. At a live appearance some years ago Sir Ivan took the stage wearing a cape with a peace symbol on it and took on the alter ego of Peaceman; with the charitable work he does, Peaceman is not so much a character as it is a reflection of who Wilzig really is. It is a little bit difficult to see that at times during this film, as Wilzig can come across as self-absorbed while wandering his giant mansion in the Hamptons, especially when there's a party going on with dozens of skimpily-clad or naked women frolicking everywhere you look. Wilzig makes no bones about that either; he rightly feels he's entitled to have his fun. And while most of the film does focus on the fun side of things, what's not to be missed here is that the Wilzig family has built a hospital and that among other charitable endeavors Sir Ivan operates the Peaceman Foundation which doles out funding to various organizations that are working to combat hate crimes and the PTSD that often comes along with them. Some will watch this film and then idolize Wilzig as a king of the partiers and he'd be completely cool with that. But if viewers recognize the caring, giving, inspirational soul underneath it all, that would put the biggest smile on Peaceman's face.
