Walk the Line (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

.
The 2005 biographical drama "Walk the Line" tells the life story of the late country music legend Johnny Cash and this soundtrack to the film presents 16 songs, performed mostly by the film's stars Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, that were either written by Cash or associated with him. While you'd never mistake his vocals for those of Cash, Phoenix does a good job with such Cash mainstays as "Get Rhythm," "Folsom Prison Blues," "Ring of Fire" and "Cry Cry Cry" while Witherspoon as the June Carter Cash character channels June's winsome style perfectly on "Wildwood Flower." Highlights by other performers include a take on Jerry Lee Lewis's "Lewis Boogie" by Waylon Malloy Payne, Tyler Hilton Elvis-ing things up with "That's All Right" and Shooter Jennings interpreting the mournful Hank Cochran chestnut "I'm a Long Way from Home." The album ends with Phoenix and Witherspoon performing a sassy version of the classic "Jackson." Guest musicians include Peter Case, Norman Blake, Tony Gilkyson, Marc Ribot, T Bone Burnett and the late Cowboy Jack Clement.
