Ramones Remembered
Soul Shine reports: No one can disagree
that the Ramones were one of the first punk bands ever formed. Inspired
by bands like the Stooges and going on to inspire acts like the Sex Pistols
themselves, the Ramones are part of a long line of rock royalty. It's fitting
then, that the band has so many different projects dedicated to them.
They have a street named after them (Joey Ramone Place in NYC), hundreds of tribute records, and countless followers. Recently added to that list was a documentary centered on the band called End of the Century' (it still hasn't been released to the general public due to legal issues).
Another tribute to the Ramones comes in the form of a book. Rock in Peace: Dee Dee and Joey Ramone' will soon see release. Its counterpart Heaven Needed a Lead Singer: Fans Remember Joey Ramone' was put on shelves shortly after Joey Ramone's death in 2001. Both books were written by Jari-Pekka Laitio-Ramone (whether or not that is the author's real name is a different issue). [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Kelly Osbourne Vs. Busted
Blabbermouth reports: [We haven't had
a Kelly Osbourne insulted by (fill in the blank) story in a while, so we
were due for one. Plus it was a slow news day.] The singer of the British
pop group BUSTED has added further fuel to their ongoing feud with Kelly
Osbourne by declaring she exists solely off her father's fame, according
to Ireland Online.
BUSTED were less than impressed with Osbourne's recent comments they are "the stupidest, most ridiculous fools ever" who wear "more make up than I do".
So Simpson has blasted the reality TV star, "Kelly loves the fact that her dad, Ozzy, is a legend. But that's the thing. Her dad is a legend. She's not." - Click Here for the Full Story
Alice Cooper In Staples Ad
Blabbermouth reports: Alice Cooper will
star in Staples, Inc.'s newest back-to-school commercial campaign. The
commercial, created by Minneapolis-based Martin|Williams Advertising, humorously
utilizes Cooper's legendary anthem "School's Out" to support the company's
2004 back-to-school brand position as a one-stop, in-stock shopping destination
for everything on school lists. The 30-second spot, entitled "Alice," is
currently airing in select markets, with a national rollout beginning on
July 26.
"Staples' back-to-school commercial takes the Alice persona and places him in an amusing situation that you wouldn't normally picture him in shopping for school supplies with his daughter," said Shira Goodman, executive vice president of marketing for Staples. - Click Here for the Full Story
Crosby Nash 04: Jurasic Rockers
For President
press release reports: David Crosby and
Graham Nash have thrown their respective hats into the ring for the Presidency
of the United States, entering an already crowded and diverse field with
their bid on the Party Party ticket. What distinguishes the Crosby/Nash
candidacy is that theirs is a campaign for a "Joint Presidency," where
the two will share responsibilities on an alternate day basis. When asked
who would be named their Vice President, Graham Nash replied there was
no need for one"We'll have two presidents, and between us we have vice
covered."
Crosby and Nash caught members of the media off guard at a press event earlier this month that was expected to be an official announcement of the release of their first album together as a duo in almost three decades. Instead, the spotlight turned to their run for Joint Presidency 2004. Among other things, the co-candidates discussed the imminent launch of their barn-storming tour across America in the official Crosby-Nash campaign airstream trailer, and their national television advertising campaign scheduled to begin airing July 26.
Recently, David Crosby told an assembled crowd that, if elected, one of their first acts would be the cleaning out of Area 51 to address the illegal alien issue." Other campaign promises include free money, and a night in the Lincoln Bedroom to anyone who antes up $200,000. The renamed "Social Insecurity" and "Medicareless" agencies will be overhauled, and the candidates are researching fixing the electronic voting machine situation. "Remember," they say, "it's not the people who vote that change things, it's the people that count the votes that change things." Luna Prep Rocktober Release
Pitchfork reports: Yes, yes, y'all, the
body rock, y'all: Luna are set to release their seventh long-player this
fall. The album, entitled Rendezvous, will be released by Jetset Records
on October 26th in The Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Four, making it
the band's first new material in two years-- which is right about on par
with their typical gestation period. In all fairness, frontman Dean Wareham
has spent the last couple of years canoodling musically with bassist Britta
Phillips (who you might remember as the high-pitched wheeze behind Jem
& The Holograms), releasing an album and EP under the very descriptive
Dean Wareham & Britta Phillips moniker. - Click

favoured 70's rock icon, Peter Frampton is to sue surf wear clothiers Billabong
over a line of garments which features the slogan Baby I Love Your Waves'
