The 45th anniversary of The Cars' self-titled debut album is being celebrated by the syndicated radio show In The Studio With Redbeard: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands.

Redbeard had this to say, "The Cars' zero-to-platinum popularity came amidst the final fizzle of the mid-Seventies Punk Rock sparkler, and the sound and attitude that survived by Spring 1978 was labeled by at least one rock writer as the nebulous one-size-fits-none term 'New Wave'. The drivetrain of the five man Boston band was always powered by the songs of the late Ric Ocasek. Growing up in the Otcasek household ( Ric(k) later would also drop the 't' from his surname ), early 1960s Sputnik paranoia and Telstar technology mixed with Cold War James Bond spy intrigue for Ric, courtesy of his father. Orange County's Bleed the Sky release new single "Soul Collapse" to all major platforms along with the visualizer. "'Soul Collapse' is about being at odds with what you want to do and what you have to do. The persistent voice in your head stemming from the decisions that take you away from where you want to be in life. The natural connections, bonds and comforts we develop on that path become anchors to a life we cherish, but are antithetical to what we really want, but can't bring ourselves to sacrifice," says Monte Barnard.

Hailing from the musical breeding grounds of Orange County, CA, metalcore band Bleed the Sky began in 2003 with vocalist Noah Robinson, guitarists Kyle Moorman and Wayne Miller, bassist Casey Kulek, sampler Luke Andersen and drummer Austin D'Amond. Merely two months later and ready to dive into the music scene, the group performed their first show to a sold out crowd in an opening spot for Opeth and their second headlining the world famous Whisky A Go Go. Run Katie Run just released their new album, Cowboy Boots with Fishnet Tights," and to celebrate we asked Kate Coleman to tell us about the song "Don't Live Patiently". Here is the story:

When I got an email about this Singled Out feature, I was very pleased but also puzzled about which song I wanted to talk about. I put a flag on the email and told myself, "I'll do this later," and proceeded to scroll through Hulu to find a movie to watch. I randomly selected a movie called "You're Not You." In this movie, Hilary Swank's character has ALS, and Emmy Rossum is hired to be her caretaker, and the two form an unbreakable bond. It's far more beautiful and complex than that, but I cried my eyes out and immediately knew which song I was meant to talk about: "Don't Live Patiently." It's a song I wrote inspired by a conversation I had with my father-in-law, Marty Perry, who passed away in October 2021 from ALS. (continue)
