Day in Pop Report for 02/01/2012
We spoke with a rep for BET who wouldn't specify exactly why the network has banned the video -- simply saying BET will not be broadcasting it. But sources at the company tell us, the ban was put in place because the video's just too explicit for TV. Find out why here.
"I'm immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year's Grammy Awards," said Adele in a statement. "It's an absolute honor to be included in such a night, and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all." "Ima be, Ima be singing at the Grammys. It's been so long I started to forget I was a singer! I can't wait, speak soon xx" the singer tweeted on Tuesday. more on this story

63-year-old Brooks -- who played Benjamin Sisko on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" -- was arrested Sunday in Wilton, Connecticut after someone complained he was driving erratically. Cops pulled Brooks over and after a sobriety test he was arrested for DUI. If convicted, Brooks could get 6 months in the pokey, although in most states first-time offenders end up with probation -- and as far as we know Brooks has no priors. A rep for Brooks has no comment. more on this story
"It's the most nerve-wracking thing I've ever done," Madonna admitted. "The Super Bowl is the holy of holies. It's like the sacred show of America. And I have to go on in the middle of that holy of holies and put on the greatest show that was ever put on before. That's no pressure." There isn't going to be much time or opportunity for rehearsal on site in Indianapolis on game day. "They're playing football all day, so I don't really have time to do a sound check," said the pop icon. "It's a little bit like a circus act: Get in there, roll out my carpet, put on my show and get the eff off," she joked. Check out video of the interview here.
The 25th anniversary's kick-off performance will take place on February 10th in Grand Ronde, Oregon at Spirit Mountain Casino with additional shows spanning the U.S. and Canada. Travis is announcing, at this time, more than 30 cities with early stops to include Boise, Denver, Fort Worth and many others, plus Calgary. Fans can expect several more shows to be added to this year's performance schedule. more on this story

"The Bad In Each Other" video was directed by Martin De Thurah (James Blake, Glasvegas). "When I approached Martin to make a little film for this song, he told me he thought it sounded like a battle cry, and that he wondered about finding the little, tiny wars people experience in between the big dramas," Feist tells SPIN.com. "I interpreted that to mean all the quiet internal battles that guide our actions; all the hopes and struggles we suppress or let carry us away. I feel like he's made a sort of symphony of In Betweens and stretched split seconds into feel-able, graspable echoes." more on this story
Lee Daniels -- the "Precious" director -- is directing an upcoming movie, "The Paperboy" starring Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman. TMZ obtained video of Daniels in a brutal argument with producer Avi Lerner. It's hard to hear the entire argument, but at one point Avi says to Lee, "You call him a racist. You know you're racist too. You always pay attention to that." It appears Avi threatened to fire Lee, saying, "I don' want you to leave, but if you don't apologize to me and you know you should ...." and then the audio is impossible to understand." And it seems much of the argument involves money. At the end, Lee taunts Avi, saying, "Need some money, need some money?" Avi says, "We paid the scuba divers a lot. Shame on you." It appears from the conversation ... the movie is way over the paltry $15 million budget. We contacted reps for both honchos, and were told, "Both parties laughed it off," adding, "'We hope the footage also shows them hugging moments later."
Produced by Eshraque "iSHi" Mughal ("Written In The Stars"), the song serves as a cautionary meditation on people's fascination with stardom. "iSHi and I wanted to do something with the 'Written In The Stars' sound, but a little bit darker," says Turner, who recently shot the video for "Angels & Stars" in Los Angeles with Lupe Fiasco and Tinie Tempah. "I've been working a lot of with Tinie and with Lupe, and iSHi and I decided we wanted to do a song with both Tine and Lupe on it. It would be one of the first songs where you got one of the biggest rappers in America together with the biggest rapper in England. We thought that would be an interesting thing." more on this story
We Are Serenades are the musical pairing of Adam Olenius (Shout Out Louds) and Markus Krunegard (Laakso). The story of We Are Serenades reads a bit like a love affair. A chance meeting between two leaders of two traveling packs of musicians, stealing glances on the sly at a truck stop somewhere along the Autobahn. more on this story
Flav tells TMZ ... he tried to stop police from arresting Dazayna Drayton -- but cops said they had no choice because Nevada law required police to hook anyone up who allegedly strikes a family member. Flav tells TMZ, "The whole thing was a big misunderstanding that shouldn't have happened. No one in my family called the cops on my daughter and she did not beat me up." Flav makes it clear ... "I love my daughter and will never let anything happen that could come between us." more on this story
"Back To You" strikes a different chord than previous singles "Android Love" and "Lemonade," evoking the feeling of loved-and-lost, and trying to the attempt to rekindle that love. "'Back To You' was written to tell someone that they left an impression," explains AdraBoo. "It's for anyone who is maybe "the one that got away" or a long distance love, or someone whose energy just stays with you." The production for "Back To You," as with all of Fly Moon Royalty, is handled by Action Jackson, and stays true to the group's roots, blending futuristic beats with jazz-influenced undertones, and places those sounds beneath the smooth, soulful vocals of AdraBoo and guest background vocalist Rachel Ferguson. "The song already had that doo-wop feel to it, so we wanted texture in the vocals," says AdraBoo, explaining why Fly Moon brought in a second voice. "We knew Rachael from theater, and her voice is like none other. She's a beautiful addition to the track." Download "Back To Love" here

Landline was self-produced and is Laswell's first album since 2010's Take A Bow, and his fourth full-length. Landline's 11 new tracks were recorded by Laswell in a church-turned-house in a small lobstering town in down-east Maine. Laswell's nomadic tendencies caused him to relocate from Los Angeles to New York City, eventually ending up at the church-turned-house that is owned by his wife's parents. The album's title was inspired by the fact that the home-recording-studio had no cell-phone reception, forcing Laswell to use landlines for all of his calls. more on this story
The video, which is directed by Ray Kay (Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, ), was shot in Los Angeles earlier this month. Ray Kay and Lambert previously worked together on the "Whataya Want From Me" video. While you wait for the video premiere, check out the behind the scenes footage here.
Coming Out Of The Pain is Dalley's second full-length and combines classic pop-country with the edge of heartland rock, as well as Dalley's intimate lyrics and dulcet vocals. The album was produced by Dalley and husband/engineer/writing partner Jack Sizemore (also a member of Jason Aldean's band), along with New Voice Entertainment.

Steve Gadlin's appearance on the ABC show "Shark Tank" aired just this Friday. For the uninitiated ... entrepreneurs go on the show seeking investments from a team of business "sharks," such as Cuban. The Dallas Mavericks owner pledged $25k to Gadlin in return for 33% of his business. Within 30 seconds of receiving Cuban's blessing, Gadlin tells TMZ, his site crashed. Gadlin tells us, he's gotten over a thousand orders in the past few days, where before he averaged between 10-40 a week. Gadlin charges $9.95 for his customized cat drawings ... and they only cost him about $0.63 in materials. He says he's going to take a week off from his real job as a web developer to catch up with the demand. We talked to Mark Cuban, who said "[Steve] is the master of the bizarre, which means we will be great partners. He comes up with ideas that sound crazy but make perfect business sense," adding, "I'm fired up to work him with." more on this story
TMZ spoke with A.J. Lamas who tells us he DID venture over to his ex-GF's Los Angeles home on January 11 at 2 AM to "discuss" their recent breakup and entered the home through a window, as he did habitually when they were together.
