Grohl
Vs Linkin Park, Crue |
Blabbermouth reports: According to ContactMusic.com,
FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl has derided bands, including LINKIN PARK
and MÖTLEY CRÜE, for using backing tracks when they perform live.
He explains, "We don't try to play perfect,
like on the record. We don't use backing tracks. That's kind of a crutch
other bands have up their sleeve.
"I'd rather sound awful and have the chance
to change things at a whim than sound like LINKIN PARK or MÖTLEY CRÜE
because of today's technology.

Goodbye
Luther |
MTV reports: Fans, friends and family came
from around the world over the past three days to pay their respects to
the late Luther Vandross. The singing legend died one week ago and, following
a two-day wake, was laid to rest Friday.
Usher, Alicia Keys, Patti LaBelle, Ashford
& Simpson, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Dionne Warwick were among
the thousands inside Riverside Church in Harlem. The church was filled
to capacity shortly after the service began at noon and hundreds were turned
away at the door. Still, most of those people stayed outside and waited
across the street from the church until the funeral was done.[see full

Dio
Holy DVD |
Blabbermouth reports: Just over 22 years after
the album was released, DIO will play their classic debut, "Holy Diver",
in its entirety on their U.K. tour in October. This is the first time that
they will ever have attempted to play the whole record live.
There are plans for DIO to both film and
record this landmark event, but it won't happen on the British tour. Rather,
they're going to do this in Russia. "We're gonna be spending a month out
there, and decided that's where the filming and recording would happen.
That's not meant to be any slight to our British fans at all. But to go
on tour in Russia is a special event in itself." [see full story for more]-

CKY
Vs Rolling Stone |
Blabbermouth reports: CKY guitarist/vocalist
Deron Miller has slammed Rolling Stone journalist Jenny Eliscu over a scathing
one-star review (out of five) of the band's latest CD, "An Answer Can Be
Found". Deron Miller's (CKY) response to Jenny Eliscu's review: "If Rolling
Stone was ever a credible music magazine, it certainly no longer is. They
actually paid some woman that calls herself Jenny Eliscu money to write
a review of our new album that isn't even suitable for inclusion in a free
high-school fanzine. She gives the album one star based on the behavior
our fans (the CKY Alliance) exhibited after our last disc got two stars.
They raided the RollingStone.com message boards demanding for it to be
revised. How predictable, tiresome and unprofessional it is for a magazine
of this stature to have Jenny Eliscu employed there as a 'journalist,'
with her personal playlists only consisting of Top 10 platinum acts. Jenny
actually uses the term 'ex-squeeze me' in her review after citing lyrics
from our album that she just simply isn't intelligent enough to understand.
This woman should be fired for this trash. I can be juevenile and 'clever,'
too, Jenny. By saying things like 'Jenny's friends and family should know
that she is an aging, ugly skank, and I really pray that she doesn't live
too much longer'... Jenny Eliscu... no stars."[see full story for more

Ozzfest
Dread |
BW&BK reports: BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer
Butler spoke to Chartattack.com recently about the possibilities of a new
studio album. "I'd only make it if it was really good," Butler says. "I
mean, we've got like six or seven songs, three of which I consider pretty
good. To put an album out we've got a lot to live up to..."
"I mean, I think we're all desperate to
do new stuff," Geezer says of the thorny subject of the Sabbath live setlist.
"But Mr. Osbourne won't do it. We're dying to do new stuff. I'm almost
dreading playing the same 10 songs again, so hopefully we're going to talk
Ozzy into doing some things." [see full story for more]-

Supergroup |
BW&BK reports: CANNIBAL CORPSE bassist
Alex Webster, WATCHTOWER/SPASTIC INK guitarist Ron Jarzombek and LAMB OF
GOD drummer Chris Adler have formed a new project tentatively dubbed MACHINATIONS
OF DEMENTIA. Jarzombek has posted the following update on his website about
the project:
"For the past several months, I have been
writing some heavy, brutal, technical, psychedelic, doomy music with Mr.
"Hammer Smashed Bass" himself Alex Webster, bassist for Cannibal Corpse.
Yeah, I know, holy crap! At the rate we are going, we will have enough
material for a full CD by the end of the year. Of course, I don't want
to give out a 'release date', but so far, we have about 40 minutes of material
and aren't slowing down any time soon. [see full story for more]-

About Ricky Warwick: Ricky Warwick
rose to international fame as the charismatic frontman of The Almighty,
a band that made their mark in the late 80s and through the 90s by bridging
the gap between punk and metal. Since the break up of The Almighty, Ricky
has taken a change in musical direction with his solo career, going more
into a roots rock direction with country rock and blues influence. He teamed
up with Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliot who produced his 2003 solo debut
"Tattoos & Alibis" and his latest effort "Love Many, Trust Few," which
hit stores in May. Ricky is expected to hit the road later this year in
support of the new CD. Check out his music at the links below.
