Kill Show |
Gigwise reports: A Buju Banton concert in
Brighton has been cancelled after protests.
The Jamaican artist was due to play the
Concorde 2, but pressure from the gay community, police and the local council
forced the venue to axe the show.
Banton wrote an inflammatory song called
Boom Bye Bye in 1992 which talked of killing batty boys by shooting
them in the head. [see full story for more]- Click

Elton
John Racist? |
punkbands reports: The inscrutable Ted Leo
has set his sights on none other than Sir Elton John. Leo took issue to
John referring to coach Sven Goran Eriksson as "Sven Goran Abba-dabba"
to which Ted replied:
I'm calling him on this and saying 100%
RACIST, and not only racist, but that particular brand of nationalist-racism
that even labels other people of the same race, but not the same nationality
as somehow "unworthy!" Oh gee, sorry Mr. fucking shill for Mickey Mouse
- only an Englishman would be worthy of coaching the English team, huh?
What if they'd have won, you prick? [see full story for more]-

Slayer
Vs Christians |
BW&BK reports: Heavy metal band SLAYER
are courting controversy among Christian groups by releasing sacrilegious
artwork on their latest album. The cover for upcoming record Christ Illusion
depicts a tattooed and amputated Jesus Christ standing in a sea of blood
and corpses, and has infuriated right-wing religious groups.
The Californian foursome are preparing
themselves for a bitter backlash after the pictures were slammed as hurtful
and grossly irreverent. However, guitarist Kerry King defends the shocking
imagery, saying, "We wanted Christ in a sea of despair. The first version
that came back looked like he was just chilling out in the water!" [see

They
Fought The Web.. |
antiMusic reports: So the major labels (and
Metallica) fought digital as long as they could, then comes along Apple
to convince them it would be good for business to stay up with the times.
Seems the labels were wrong and Steve Jobs was right. Nielsen SoundScan
numbers indicate that sales of digital albums jumped 126 percent for the
first half of 2006 and digital singles climbed 77 percent. All of that
money could have been lost, but they would have made a few thousand from
suing granny for downloading that Fiddy Cent song.
On the other side of the coin, physical
album sales are down. Sales dropped 4.3 percent for the first half of 2006
compared to the same period last year. Must be the plastic cases that are
doing it! [see story later in today's report] - Click

Bob
Marley Boulevard |
thetripwire reports: Hahaha... Just kidding...
kinda. The one and only Bob F-ing Marley had a street named after him in
Brooklyn over the weekend. An eight-block stretch of Church Avenue between
Remsen Ave and East 98th street in East Flatbush will henceforth forever
be known as Bob Marley Boulevard.
The mayor approved the name change back
in May, but the ceremony took place on Saturday and brought out Marley
family members, politicians, foreign dignitaries and fans alike. [see full

Tom
Waits Tour |
Wenn reports: Eccentric rocker TOM WAITS is
set for a rare US tour, performing a string of shows in some cities where
he hasn't performed for almost three decades.
The upcoming eight August (06) dates, which
begin in Atlanta, Georgia, are sure to be among the hottest tickets of
the summer because the two-time Grammy winner rarely performs live and
hasn't officially toured since 1999. Quirky Waits insists there's an ulterior
reason for the dates: "We need to go to Tennessee to pick up some fireworks,
and someone owes me money in Kentucky."[see full story for more]-
