The Bronx Week: Day 1
antiMusic reports: The Bronx roar back this week with their third album! To celebrate this release we asked frontman Matt Caughthran to pick his favorite tracks from the album and tell us about them. He more than delivers! Here is Matt with today's song:

Knifeman- this is the first song on the new record and currently my favorite song to play live. Knifeman's title is a tribute to a neighbor I had growing up in Pico Rivera CA.

He would wash his driveway down with gasoline and chop down his hedges with a machete every other week. My father called him knifeman. He committed suicide at a church down the street after a police standoff. His spirit lives on in knifeman's lyrics. This song is about being born outta place. Trying to keep sanity in an insane world.

Their latest album "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," released mid-year, topped charts in the United States, Britain, Japan, Germany, France and elsewhere.

Sales apparently benefited from Coldplay's marketing strategy, including giving away the first single free over the Internet for a week and staging a series of free concerts before embarking on an international tour.

You Won't Believe What The Biggest Selling Digital Song Is
Music Radar reports: Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" is a song you either love to hate or hate to love. But lots of people simply love, love, love it: the epic power ballad has become the biggest-selling digital catalog track ever.

According to Soundscan, it is the first catalog song to sell over 2 million downloads, achieving double-platinum status. (It is categorized as a 'catalog' track because it was released before MP3s were invented and available for sale online through venues like the iTunes store. It was placed in the iTunes Store catalog on April 28, 2003.)

Why is it so popular? Good question, and like "What makes water wet?" it's somewhat unanswerable. However, the fact remains that, since it was first released on the 1981 Journey album Escape, Don't Stop Believin' resonated with fans. - more on this story

Talking to British chat show This Morning, Miley told presenters: "I had the idea [for the disguise] so I got a wig and it was really short - a tomboy cut - and I decided to straighten it. I'm sitting down and all of a sudden I start smelling smoke. - more on this story

Hudson Murder Suspect To Go Free?
TMZ reports: Monday morning could be absolutely huge in the Hudson family murder case -- the cops' only suspect, William Balfour, could walk out of jail a free man.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Balfour, who's only being held on a parole violation in a case unrelated to the murders, could "conceivably" skate if there's not enough evidence to prove he did violate his parole. He's scheduled to face the Illinois State Parole Review Board Monday at 9:00 AM.

The only way authorities could keep Balfour in custody is if they officially charge him for the Hudson killings between now and Monday, or if they find that he did violate his parole - more on this story

Oasis Star Claims Radiohead Unoriginal?
Music Radar reports: When Noel Gallagher disses you, it means he really likes you. Well, not all the time, but it's true in the case of Radiohead. Oasis's main songwriter and lead guitarist was giving an interview recently, during which he offered praise for the Oxford band but also said, "The biggest criticism that the music press have against us [Oasis] is that we're not Radiohead."

Gallagher added: "Correct me if I'm wrong, they've been making the same record since Kid A, have they not?"

Turning positive, Gallagher explained what he sees as the main differences between the two groups: "I like them. Every time I see them live they blow me away, but you know, it's kind of [like] we make very accessible rock 'n' roll music and they constantly make difficult electronic records." - more on this story

Holiday Hate Tour: Season Two

Singled Out: Light This City
antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Light This City release their brand new album "Stormchaser" this week and next week we'll spend the entire week with vocalist Laura Nichol and drummer Ben Murray where they tell us about their favorite songs from the album, but today's we're giving you a little preview as they tell us about the first single from the album: "Sand and Snow." Here are Laura and Ben to tell us about the song:

Laura: This song wrote itself. Sometimes I'll wake up at night with a paragraph written, word for word in my head, and I just put it onto paper, andboom!it's a song. I feel really lucky when that happens. For this one, I was sleeping in the van on an overnight drive and I woke up from a recurring dream, where this guy I used to know was following me. In the dream, I'm never so much scared of him as I am anxious to avoid him seeing me or finding me. I met him on tour and there were a lot of emotions attached and our story was just like if you had ripped the last part of a story out of a book and thrown it away. I just started thinking about how unfair that was and I thought if I wrote down my dream, it would get out of the bowels of my mind.

The title comes from all the places we traveled together on tour. We would always take walks in whatever city we were in, and sometimes we'd find ourselves walking through sand, and sometimes it would be snow. That's one of the really cool things about tour; you can usually see the extremities of each season within the one month you're out on the road.

Ben: This song is my personal favorite on the record. Ryan wrote the verses while I wrote the intro and choruses, and Brian wrote the ending. What's cool about this song and all the songs on the record is the fact that there is input from every one of us in every son, each riff is written by someone different, and you can't tell. Our styles really blended together nicely in the writing process. I love the intro to this song because it reminds me of Jester Race-era In Flames, totally epic. The verses and chorus are just so catchy, it really plays like a pop song. The trade off solos at the end between Brian and Ryan are amazing. Super blues-y which contrasts nicely with the shredding thrash solos on the other songs. All in all, definitely my favorite track.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
