(Radio.com) Death Cab for Cutie have explained that what some media outlets have been calling an on-stage meltdown in the middle of their set at a concert last week, which was actually a reaction to an equipment malfunction at the very end of their show. Radio.com reports:

On June 15th, video surfaced of Death Cab for Cutie appearing to suddenly abort a show in Charleston, SC. Frontman Ben Gibbard tossed a mic stand to the ground and abruptly stormed off during "Soul Meets Body," near the end of the set.

Fans and writers weren't sure what to make of the footage, which some described as a "breakdown." Death Cab's Nick Harmer spoke to Billboard to clarify what happened--attributing the sudden shutdown to a perfect storm of stress, technical failures and a fight in the crowd.

"It's kind of a non-story really," said Harmer. "It got spun as we left the stage mid-set. It was the last 20 seconds of the last song and all of Ben's equipment failed at the exact kind of unrelated moment there was a giant fight in front of us."

Harmer added that recent headlines had the band on edge in a public, open setting. "We would've finished the song but we're all feeling a little skittish after Orlando and things were just - we weren't sure what was happening. Suddenly, there was this moment in the crowd where we don't see this kind of energy happen in front of us," he said. Read more and watch the footage from the set here.
