Day in Pop Report for 10/23/2014
The rapper was performing hit "Tuesday" when video shows a gentleman in a gray hoodie make his way to the stage, tap the rapper for a presumed handshake, pull him down to the stage floor, and punch him once, before attempting to flee the building. Maybe the most impressive thing about this all is that the Atlanta rapper then gets up, with a security guard now positioned firmly in front of the stage, and finishes the song like nothing ever happened. Professionalism, people. Watch the scene play out in the video here.
Footage has surfaced - thanks to Conan O'Brien - of "Bieber" hitting the boxing ring with Floyd Mayweather Jr., and given his history, it's a whole new kind of fight for the young pop star. For one, it's all in good fun. Bieber and Mayweather have actually been pals for a couple of years now. Recall in 2012 when Bieber first entered the ring with the heavyweight champion in Las Vegas, along with 50 Cent and WWE wrestler Triple H. The motley crew escorted Mayweather into the ring. Now Bieber has his boxing gloves on. In the video obtained by Conan, Bieber trains with Mayweather, taking a few shots in the head and stomach - before trying to run away from Mayweather, who ends up beating on Bieber with a baseball bat and pouring the contents of a garbage can over him. "Don't ask us how we got a hold of it," O'Brien says before introducing the clip. Watch it here.
"The success here in Las Vegas has given me a confidence that I have not had in years, even in past tours," she told the newspaper. "I really have been able to build up a lot more courage and a lot more confidence in myself. Yeah, I'm ready for more things now." In the interview, Twain revealed that she's in the middle of putting the album together. "That's a whole new world there for me because that took a lot of courage, too," she said. "Just to really dive in there and expose my songwriting for the first time after a long time to my peers and have to sit there and get the feedback and be brave enough to do that." Read more here.
Tyga revealed that he's not team Drake, or team Nicki Minaj for that matter, in his cover story for Vibe. When asked if he's trying to break away from his label Young Money, run by Lil Wayne, Tyga said, "Yeah, I'm tryna go independent. I don't really get along with Drake. I don't really get along with Nicki." Pressed to explain why he doesn't get along with Drake, he elaborated. "I don't like Drake as a person," he said. "He's just fake to me. I like his music; you know what I'm saying? I think his music is good, but we're all different people. We were forced together and it was kinda like we were forcing relationships together. " As for why Tyga stuck it out on a label with both Drake and Nicki, the rapper said that he did it all "because of (Lil) Wayne and my relationship with him." Read more here.

N0, Swift hasn't gotten into performance art - or noise music, for that matter. The whole incident turned out to be a "glitch," according to The Independent, that led iTunes to post for sale an eight-second Taylor Swift song of nothingness called "Track 3." Fans saw the new track offered as part of her upcoming 1989 album and acted fast - so fast that they didn't even preview the song. The immediate response rocketed "Track 3″ to the top of the charts in Canada. Read more here.

And now there's his new video, for "Blue Ocean", which finds him swept away into a roiling sea of feels. The visual features him running, jumping and doing handstands through a series of vacant landscapes: a dock, a beach, a pile of chopped in the forest. America's favorite heiress Kylie Jenner plays his love interest, while sister Willow Smith sings the hook. There is even a slideshow of photos from Kidchella, North West's birthday party. The whole thing is a strange, captivating look into the life of meditative, famous, and wildly well-connected 16-year-old. Watch it here.

The previous lawsuit came when Kesha joined DAS, headed by David Sonenberg, for management representation and the company attempted to extract her from her contract with Jive/RCA Records to move her to Warner Bros. In the deposition, given in 2011, Kesha said that Dr. Luke did not ever give her cocaine or a roofie (the "date rape drug"). She further stated that he "never made sexual advances" to her. She claimed not to remember if she ever told her mother, Pebe, that she woke up in Dr. Luke's hotel room with no memory of the previous night. In her despostion, Pebe said she had not heard of her daughter being slipped the date rape drug - or of Dr. Luke giving her daughter any drugs in their early days of working together. These revelations seem to take away from the credibility of Kesha's current claims that Dr. Luke sexually assaulted and drugged her. Her attorney, Mark Geragos, had a quick response to those claims. The film, scheduled for a Dec. 19 release, will star Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz and Quvenzhan Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild). Back in May, Sia revealed on Twitter the she and producer Greg Kurstin composed music and lyrics, respectively, for the film's soundtrack. Today, Good Morning America previewed the video, which will premiere shortly, for the track "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile." Hardcore Annie fans can catch "Hard Knock Life" from the soundtrack here.
And while we've heard three tracks for it in advance of the release, "Shake It Off," "Out of the Woods" and "Welcome to New York," as well as a snippet of "Style" in a Target ad, we haven't really been sure at what else would be on the country-turned-pop star's fifth LP. Until now, as Ms. Swift has unveiled the full track list for the upcoming Big Machine Records. "Welcome to New York" will be kicking off the affair, while the other two singles show up right in the middle at track five and six. Other song titles of note: "I Know Places" (maybe a Lykke Li cover?), "All You Had to Do Is Stay," and album closer "Clean." Read more here.
The song connected with a lot of people, and now Glizzy's got the big name features to show for it. A new remix of the song, released Wednesday (Oct. 22), features two heavy-hitters in rap on the track in A$AP crew leader A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz. On the remix, A$AP Rocky does his best to keep up with the song's bounce, comparing himself to Tupac because they both have belly tattoos, and claims to have "hoes for days." 2 Chainz, meanwhile, has even more absurd verse in which he gives girls a bite of his "sausage" and describes lipstick stains in several provocative places. But it's Glizzy who really shines despite his higher-billed guest stars, a hometown hero getting the day in the sun he's always deserved. Read more and listen to the track here.
"[Kesha's] lawsuit is a wholehearted effort by Kesha to regain control of her music career and her personal freedom after suffering for 10 years as a victim of mental manipulation, emotional abuse and an instance of sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke," a statement issued by Kesha's lawyer, Mark Geragos, reads. In an interview with Radio.com promoting the upcoming Flaming Lips album, With a Little Help From My Fwends, frontman Wayne Coyne weighed in with his take on the Kesha/Dr. Luke relationship. And if that sounds odd to you, you may have forgotten the much-talked-about, and then abruptly shelved Kesha/Flaming Lips collaborative album. After working together on 2012's The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends album, the unlikely combo started working on a full-length effort, under the name "Lip$ha." But in November of 2013, Coyne tweeted, "As of now sadly there will be no Lip$ha. I can't say why It is sad " Now, however, Coyne is opening up a bit about why that album got kiboshed, and all signs point toward Dr. Luke. Coyne compares working with Kesha to working with Miley Cyrus, who is a guest on their new album. "[Miley Cyrus] doesn't have a dilemma like Kesha did, or does," he tells Radio.com. "But the stuff that we did together [with Kesha] was just spectacular, and it made us want to do more. And I think we did like four or five songs, and then Kesha would remind me, 'Wayne, I can't put this music out, Dr. Luke will kill me.' I was like, 'Oh! I didn't know!'" Read more here.
In a recent sit-down with a New York radio station, T.I. finally revealed his peacemaker tactics, explaining that things never escalated to above an inside voice. "It was basically like, 'I'm in the crossfire big dog. What's going on?'" T.I. retold with a chuckle. "'You know what I mean. I can't dodge anymore.'" He added, "It didn't get into an elaborationWhen I called him and asked him what's happening, he said, 'I know what you're calling forand guess what? It's over.'" Read more here.
The two trade excessive boasts over the towering beat. "I spent a thousand on these m****rf**kin jeans, boy," brags Mill. "I got money busting out the seams, boy." Not to be outdone, Boosie claims that the "jeans in his closet add up to a Range Rover." He also the leader of a "Mad Max murder team," which is an impressively terrifying image. He also offers a bit of helpful advice to up and coming artists: "I don't got a 360 deal, I get all my show money." Wise words. Listen here.
This however does not mean that he just decided to stay quiet, this is Kanye after all. Instead he sent two tweets that were clearly from the heart and showed how mushy Yeezy can be. Alongside a candid shot of Kim, Kanye thanked her for being the "dopest wife & mom." He then sent another message explaining, "Sometimes I feel like just saying I love you isn't strong enough to express how much I love you." It really is 'Ye, it really is. He tweeted, "Happy Birthday baby! Thank you for being the dopest wife & mom! http://t.co/D3k20HN3Yb" and "Sometimes I feel like just saying I love you isn't strong enough to express how much I love you" Read more here.
When me and my producer Andrew Hypes sat down to make the track "So What", we had a vision for a EDM/HipHop cross song that was still relatable to my story. Me being a recovering Heroin addict, the Rave EDM scene is not particularly where you would think I'd be hanging out, but actually it's quite the opposite. I love up tempo, "lose your mind" music that just takes you out of yourself! I wanted a single on the EP to let the people know we are different and diverse. "So What" started as a standard hip hop track. Once we finished it, me and Andrew sat down and saw something more. With Andrew''s touch and my ideas combined we created a very different type of sound. "So What" is unlike anything you've ever heard. When it came to the video, we wanted to show people that even though I don't - and others in the world - don't drink or get high, we can still have fun. The team sat down with Shomi Patwary, Ex Prod. for The Fader, and wrote the treatment together. We chose to do a crazy house party with random funny things going on to keep it entertaining, but not cross the line into corny. The scene at the table where we are all eating whole plan chickens, which was absolutely hilarious behind the scenes, was meant to turn heads and make people go " What the...?" Whether they were laughing, confused, or hating, I just wanted it to have an "Ahhh" factor. We incorporated Vaping, which is very popular in the recovery community, to act as our "Drugs and alcohol", then the dance scene and the fire scene as well. All people used in the video were actually in recovery and very close friends of mine. I keep my friends and family very close, its what keeps me clean. Even though I don't drink or do drugs, I don't mind people who do. I just can't. If I touch a drink or drug I'll go back to my drug of choice, which is heroin, and that's no good for anyone. So that's how "So What" came about. The high energy HipHop/EDM cross that you can lose your mind to. GO NUTS!!! Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video and learn more about the EP right here!
