50
Cent Vs 50 Cent |
DIME Media reports: In a setback for rapper
Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson in his lawsuit against the producers of The Infamous
Times - Volume I: The Original 50 Cent, on July 20, 2005, a federal court
in Los Angeles denied his motion for an injunction against further distribution
of the critically acclaimed and double-platinum selling DVD and refused
his request that he be given an accounting of the DVD's sales to date.
Jackson alleged that the use of the words
"50 Cent" in the DVD's title infringed on his trademark. However, the court
held that it was likely that Czar Entertainment would prevail in its defense
that the use of "50 Cent" in the title was legitimate under federal trademark
law. The court also found that it was unlikely that consumers would believe
that the rapper had produced the DVD or was otherwise responsible for its
distribution. [see full story for more]- Click

Rock
Radio Death |
Trent McMartin reports: Throughout his short
and turbulent life music critic and author Lester Bangs would repeatedly
denounce the state of rock and roll, regularly criticizing it and on many
occasions declaring it dead. Bangs' prophecies about rock's premature death
were always greatly exaggerated since rock still remains and will endure
for generations to come but none can question the overall decline of rock
radio's ratings in North America.
As reported by Steve Knopper in a June
24th, Rolling Stone article; five rock radio stations in major U.S. cities
switched formats in recent months after ratings dropped for six consecutive
years. This does come at an odd time since, as explained by Knopper in
his article, rock albums have dominated the charts the past few months.
Artists such as Coldplay, Green Day, Audioslave, System of a Down, Bruce
Springsteen, Nine Inch Nails, the Dave Matthews Band, and Rob Thomas have
all experienced success on the billboard charts this past spring and summer.
But this success is fleeting since rock
radio station ratings are still in decline.[see full story for more][see
