Midtown are back with another brand new tribute to one of their favorite bands for their forthcoming EP, We're Too Old To Write New Songs, So Here's Some Old Songs We Didn't Write. Today, they've shared their take on Pavement's "Cut Your Hair".

Shares frontman Gabe Saporta: "Our goal in making this EP was to give people insight into the different music we listened to growing up that ultimately led us into doing Midtown. Believe it or not, Rob Hitt and I butted heads when we met as 14-year-olds. He teased me for wearing striped socks-which he considered "grunge" and clearly not as cool as the ska revival argyle socks he was donning. (continue)

The Mars Volta have shared a visualizer video for "Palm Full Of Crux (Acoustic)", a new single taken from their upcoming album 'Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corazon'.

The song follows "Blank Condolences (Acoustic)", which was released earlier this month with the announcement of the upcoming album.
Much more than a simple "un- plugged" version of 'The Mars Volta' - the bands self-titled seventh album and return as a band - this acoustic rendition furthers the mission of the source music, which drew into sharper focus the traditional Latin influences that have always inspired Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. This is, says Rodríguez- López, The Mars Volta's version of a "folk record", tracing the melodies and rhythms of the parent album back to their traditional Caribbean roots and chal- lenging listeners to hear the group in an entirely new light. It will be released on April 21, 2023 via Clouds Hill. (continue)

Against The Current have shared an acoustic version of their recent single "blindfolded." The new version of the song takes the energetic, fiery original track - the first independent release from the band in seven years- and trades it in for a more mellowed-out feel that allows frontwoman Chrissy Costanza's captivating vocals to shine.

On the new track, Chrissy shares, "Reimagining our music in different skins has always been central to our identity. The same way we've refused to follow the rules of any one music scene or genre, we allow our music to do the same. 'blindfolded' (acoustic) lets us tell the same story in different light." Mark on "Different Animal": The song was written many years ago, and with a bit of country-ish bounce and plaintive singing. It was the first song I had written that had dialogue, that exchange or two between the singer and the girl, and I remember feeling good about getting what I considered a kind of literary element into a song. Toronto-based alt-rockers Arcane Ghosts released their new EP, "Distant Youth" today (March 31st). To celebrate we asked them to tell us about the effort. Here they are with the story:

The collection of songs found in "Distant Youth" marked a turning point for Arcane Ghosts in terms of songwriting, public reception, and overall potential to be a name to remember within the alternative scene.

Following the release of our prior EP "Human Interference" in 2019, we set out to play as many shows as possible while continuing to improve our craft. We all know what happened at the start of 2020... and as a result shows were effectively ended due to lockdowns in our home of Toronto, Canada. Not only did we lose the opportunity to perform for people, we also had no way of practicing as a full band since we rented public studio spaces by the hour! This forced us to write songs exclusively by sitting in a room together, picking out the best guitar parts and vocal hooks and having everything else come together in the studio on a later date. Our producer and engineer Anton DeLost was able to bring out the "pop" and "indie" side of Arcane Ghosts while maintaining some of the heavy elements found in our past work. Overall, this new direction stemmed our strongest and most marketable music to date, and set the blueprint that we will follow for the foreseeable future. To put it best, the music on our new EP is "poppy, but technical". (continue)
